The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith

Book Summary:

In the tradition of Speak, this extraordinary debut novel shares the unforgettable story of a young woman as she struggles to find strength in the aftermath of an assault.

Eden was always good at being good. Starting high school didn’t change who she was. But the night her brother’s best friend rapes her, Eden’s world capsizes.

What was once simple, is now complex. What Eden once loved—who she once loved—she now hates. What she thought she knew to be true, is now lies. Nothing makes sense anymore, and she knows she’s supposed to tell someone what happened but she can’t. So she buries it instead. And she buries the way she used to be.

Told in four parts—freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year—this provocative debut reveals the deep cuts of trauma. But it also demonstrates one young woman’s strength as she navigates the disappointment and unbearable pains of adolescence, of first love and first heartbreak, of friendships broken and rebuilt, and while learning to embrace a power of survival she never knew she had hidden within her heart.

My Review:

This story is an emotional journey for Eden. I read this book in like one night and was crying at the end. The story was detailed for more older teens. Feelings the pain Eden went through when she was rape at an young age. Over three years you get to see how she cope and bottle it up like it never happen. Loosing friends and herself in the process. This book is an graphic and have sensitive issues that talk about in it. I think it more older teens read then anything. Can Eden be saved at the end before it’s to late?

{Arc Review} Batman: Nightwalker (DC Icons #2) by Marie Lu

Book Summary:

Before he was Batman, he was Bruce Wayne. A reckless boy willing to break the rules for a girl who may be his worst enemy.

The Nightwalkers are terrorizing Gotham City, and Bruce Wayne is next on their list.

One by one, the city’s elites are being executed as their mansions’ security systems turn against them, trapping them like prey. Meanwhile, Bruce is turning eighteen and about to inherit his family’s fortune, not to mention the keys to Wayne Enterprises and all the tech gadgetry his heart could ever desire. But after a run-in with the police, he’s forced to do community service at Arkham Asylum, the infamous prison that holds the city’s most brutal criminals.

Madeleine Wallace is a brilliant killer . . . and Bruce’s only hope.

In Arkham, Bruce meets Madeleine, a brilliant girl with ties to the Nightwalkers. What is she hiding? And why will she speak only to Bruce? Madeleine is the mystery Bruce must unravel. But is he getting her to divulge her secrets, or is he feeding her the information she needs to bring Gotham City to its knees? Bruce will walk the dark line between trust and betrayal as the Nightwalkers circle closer.

My Review:

When I first heard about this book, I was like I must read it. Was lucky enough to an arc of it. I am such an big Batman fan so was happy Marie Lu wrote this book.It was when  Bruce before he became the batman. I really enjoy the story line to this book. Get to see Bruce growing up as an man a bit and problems he has during high school. Was so sad how short the book Batman was. This book has action, lots of fighting and some deaths in it, hardly that much romance going on. If you looking for to see how the Bruce turn out at the age of 18 then you will like this book. It’s coming out Jan. 2, so it will be out soon. Happy Reading!

{Arc Review & Giveaway} Everless by Sara Holland

Book Summary:

In the kingdom of Sempera, time is currency—extracted from blood, bound to iron, and consumed to add time to one’s own lifespan. The rich aristocracy, like the Gerlings, tax the poor to the hilt, extending their own lives by centuries.

No one resents the Gerlings more than Jules Ember. A decade ago, she and her father were servants at Everless, the Gerlings’ palatial estate, until a fateful accident forced them to flee in the dead of night. When Jules discovers that her father is dying, she knows that she must return to Everless to earn more time for him before she loses him forever.

But going back to Everless brings more danger—and temptation—than Jules could have ever imagined. Soon she’s caught in a tangle of violent secrets and finds her heart torn between two people she thought she’d never see again. Her decisions have the power to change her fate—and the fate of time itself.

My Review:

A world where blood can cost you, your time. When I first heard of this book I have fallen in love with the cover and summary. The world is Everless is an place of dangers and everything is cost with blood money. When your 17 your old enough to get your blood letting they call it. It crazy how that blood can turn to gold to use for payment. Don’t want to spoil to much of the world of Everless.

I enjoy the three main characters, Julie, Roan and Liam. Liam comes off as an very scary guy at first. Roan is this nice guy, that every girl wants. Then there Juiles who has her own little serects but was once good friends wtih Roan and Liam. Things don’t stay the same of course. Like how head strong Juiles is trying to find where she belongs in Everless. With so many twist and turns this story takes. It was my favorite read for soon to be 2018. With some little romance, action and secrets to die for. This new fantasy debut will be an hit with everyone. Now the fun part. I am hosting an giveaway of the arc.

{Waiting on Wednesday} Time Bomb by Joelle Charbonneau

So looking forward waiting this book. The summary and the cover draws me in a lot. I have read other Joelle Charbonneau book Dividing Eden and love that book. So looking forward her new stand alone. Here is summary and cover.

Summary:

A congressman’s daughter sick of her perfect image. A star quarterback with something to hide. A guy who’s tired of his summer crush ignoring his calls. A clarinet player who’s done trying to fit in–or trying at all. An orphaned rebel who wants to teach someone a lesson. A guy who wants people to see him, not his religion.

Diana, Frankie, Tad, Cas, Z, and Rashid couldn’t be more different, but before the morning’s over, they’ll all be trapped in a school that’s been rocked by a bombing. When they hear on the radio that the bomber is still inside they must quickly decide whether they’ll turn on one another or work together to get out alive, even as more bombs go off.

Told from multiple perspectives, this emotional thriller from the author of the heart-pounding Testing trilogy keeps you guessing until the final pages. Who is the real culprit? And what sparked the time bomb that had been just waiting to go off?

Book Summary:

Charlotte Charlie Donovan knows exactly what she wants for Christmas: Teo Ortiz. He s the school s star athlete, in the National Honor Society, invited to every party, contributes to the school paper (where Charlie is co-editor), and is about to be featured as One to Watch in a teen magazine basically, he’s exactly the type of guy Charlie s meant to be with. The only problem he barely knows she exists.

But Charlie is determined to be Teo’s date to the Christmas ball. And she has a plan: To rig the paper s Secret Santa so that she can win his heart with five perfect gifts. But to do that she needs help. Enter J.D. Ortiz Teo s cousin, and possibly the most annoying person on the planet. He s easy going, laid back, unorganized, spontaneous, and makes a joke out of everything the exact opposite of Charlie (and Teo). But he s willing to provide insight into what Teo wants, so shes stuck with him.

Yet, the more time Charlie spends with J.D., the more she starts to wonder: Does she really know what, or rather who, she wants for Christmas?

My Review:

In this new fluffy holiday read, Charlie is an upbeat girl and everything has to be perfect for her even her date to the school dance. This book reads like an 80s teen movie in a very good way. This positive book can cure any holiday blues out there. Charlie may seem annoying at first with her rules and with being perfect but at times I even laughed when she messes up which made her relatable. Charlie is not as perfect as she seems and with help with another classmate JD, will she be able to loosen up in time for the Christmas to start? This book has some fun, teen romance and we were all rooting for the underdog. In the end, can Charlie get the perfect Christmas she wants?

Happy Reading and Holiday!

Suddenly, even those in her innermost circle seem suspicious. In her seemingly safe West Virginia town, Ella starts to wonder who she can trust.

My Review:

What happens when girls go missing and and killer with an clown mask on the loose? Alot could go wrong, Ella is in the center of it all. Really did enjoy the story of this book a lot. You get an sense on what Ella is feeling when she gets attack. Everyone seems to be an suspect, and a nice twist at the end some may not see coming. This is an quick thriller with action, romance for older teens in it. Love the cover of the book, seeing the fear in Ella’s face and the killer behind her. Forget Santa list this year, go read and find out who is on the dead list. Happy Reading!
