I Am Still Alive by Kate Alice Marshall

Book Summary:
After
Jess is alone. Her cabin has burned to the ground. She knows if she doesn’t act fast, the cold will kill her before she has time to worry about food. But she is still alive—for now.
Before
Jess hadn’t seen her survivalist, off-the-grid dad in over a decade. But after a car crash killed her mother and left her injured, she was forced to move to his cabin in the remote Canadian wilderness. Just as Jess was beginning to get to know him, a secret from his past paid them a visit, leaving her father dead and Jess stranded.
After
With only her father’s dog for company, Jess must forage and hunt for food, build shelter, and keep herself warm. Some days it feels like the wild is out to destroy her, but she’s stronger than she ever imagined.
Jess will survive. She has to. She knows who killed her father… and she wants revenge.

My Review:

I did liked this book. It was very detailed on what happen to the main character in the book. This book for me will be a one time read.

I did liked Jess in the book. It’s a sad story on what happens to her in the book. The things she has to do to survive in the short time she was with her father was unfortunate. Will she be able to survive, to get her revenge on the people who kill her father?

This read is for people who like survival stories. It very detailed book on what Jess had to do in order to survive. You get flashbacks on how she end up alone in the woods. If you want to read it and unsure of it, then get it at the library. Looking for something new and different then you guys can try this book out.

Happy Reading!!

And then every day in between . . . she’s something else entirely.
Though she still looks like herself, every twenty-four hours predatory instincts take over and Kali becomes a feared demon-hunter with the undeniable urge to hunt, trap, and kill zombies, hellhounds, and other supernatural creatures. Kali has no idea why she is the way she is, but she gives in to instinct anyway. Even though the government considers it environmental terrorism.
When Kali notices a mark on the lower back of a popular girl at school, she knows instantly that the girl is marked for death by one of these creatures. Kali has twenty-four hours to save her, and unfortunately she’ll have to do it as a human. With the help of a few new friends, Kali takes a risk that her human body might not survive . . . and learns the secrets of her mysterious condition in the process.

My Review:

This book had so many Buffy the vampire slayer feelings. I did enjoy the story idea of the book. And also the characters within the book I like. I happen upon this old book on instagram. Glad I find it at library and read it.

Kali, our demon hunter in the book. I liked her a lot in the book. She is brave and daring. Willing to risk her life for people she hardly knows. Then at school she is just a new girl hardly anyone knows her. Once she see the head cheerleader bitten, will she be able to save her life? Both her demon world and human life will collide. Will Kali be ready to let her new friends in?

This book is filled with demon killing. There some twists and turns along the way. If you into demon hunters type of books, then you might enjoy this book. I glad I found it on social media.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Book Summary:
“What’s the point of having a voice if you’re gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn’t be?”

The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed.

My Review:

This book is so good and very empowering. Such an emotional rollercoaster ride this book. The story was good and the conection with the characters felt real.

I really liked Starr in the book. I thought she was brave in it. She tries hard keep her life separate from her school life. Once a she watches her friend passed before her eyes, both her worlds collide. Who will stick by Starr side in the end?

The book was so moving and very detailed written. I was glad I finally picked this book up before the movie comes out in Oct. 19. If you have yet read this book, I suggest you do before the movie comes out.

Then I wake up in an alternate reality…and everything else has changed. Goth is in. I’m considered cool, and my archenemy—the formerly popular Mercedes—is the freak. But my real friends won’t talk to me…and the new boy is getting under my skin. As my world spins out of control, I’m desperate to return to normal. But the more time that passes, the less I’m sure what “normal” really is.everything else has changed. Goth is in. I’m considered cool, and my archenemy—the formerly popular Mercedes—is the freak. But my real friends won’t talk to me…and the new boy is getting under my skin. As my world spins out of control, I’m desperate to return to normal. But the more time that passes, the less I’m sure what “normal” really is.

My Review:

I did liked this book a lot. The storyline was predictable, but did enjoy the characters in the book. You did feel bad on the struggles that some of the main characters face.

I liked Jade in the book. She dealing with a lot and also death of her mom. Becoming a different person and turning off her emotions. By chance, she gets transported to a different world. Can Jade become a better person or she stuck forever in another world?

The book was fun. Kinda reminds me of other books and movies. It was neat seeing a world of goths in charge. If you enjoy a book on finding yourself, then you might like this book. It just came out now.

My Review:

So excited to get back into the ugiles series world. This book has a new story and new characters to enjoy. There some references to some of the characters from the ugiles series. If you have yet read the ugiles books, you don’t have to read this review.

I do enjoy Frey and Rafi sister bond they have them for each. You get to see how Frey struggle where she belongs. She been training her life in hiding and pretend to her sister double. I like how she grows in the book and becomes her own person.

I like seeing how Rafi puts on a brave face. In the media and everyday life she must pretend to be perfect. Inside she struggles going against her father and protecting her sister. Will these sisters be able to stop their father in time?

The book is action pack and fun. A simple quick read and I enjoy every minute of it. If your a fan of Scott Westerfeld works then this book for you. The book comes Sept. 11.

He starts his own podcast as he tracks Sadie’s journey, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it’s too late.

My Review:

This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Really enjoy the twists and turn to it. The story and the characters were well written and very good.

Now Sadie on on the run to track down Mattie’s killer. Will Sadie be able to get the answers she needs and find justice for her sister?

This book more for older teens. It has some sensitive topics in it. Still it a good mystery/thriller book. It comes out this week. Looking for something new mystery, then I suggest this book.
