*Review* Any Second by Kevin Emerson

Book Summary:
Five years after being kidnapped, Elian’s captor sends him into the mall–with a bomb strapped to his chest.
Across the mall is Maya, a girl whose crippling anxiety holds her prisoner in its own way.
Whether it’s chance or fate, Maya keeps Eli from ending them all. And now nothing is the same. Drawn together by their dark pasts, Maya and Eli know it takes only seconds for their entire worlds to change. But time will tell if meeting each other will change them for better or worse.

My Review:

This book left me completely speechless. So, this review was really hard for me to write. It deals with a lot of heavy issues and it instantly bonds a deep connection with what the two main characters were going through.

It just took one second and Maya’s life turned upside down. She helps save the lives of everyone at the mall when a bomber shows up. She has already suffered through anxiety and now got PSTD. Will Maya be able to move on from that horrible day?

And then there is Eli, the bomber. What’s his story and why did he try to blow up the mall? Starting in a new school and mingle with people who don’t know his past is difficult. He struggles with being the outcast and watches his new friend, Graham being bullied all the time. Who is Eli under the wolf mask?

I liked Maya in the book, it was sad to read the struggles she was dealing with. Her friend Janice really wasn’t a friend at all and I disliked her immensely. And with Eli, I felt sorry on what he went through and the horrible events that lead to him walking into that crowded mall with bombs strapped to him. Also, Graham another character I did not like in the book, he seems a bit unhinged and tried to take his rage out on people in the wrong way.

*This book may be very sensitive to some readers and there are definite trigger warnings.*

I really did love this book. It was a real eye opener in the world of bullies, being kidnapped and trying to move on. It’s a powerful read that fills you with so many emotions. Don’t forget your tissues.

Happy Reading!!

Thanks so much to Stay Fetters at Acourtofcoffeeandbooks for helping me out with this post. It means so much to me to have you a friend and helper for this blog.

{Arc Review & Giveaway} Fire and Heist by Sarah Beth Durst

Book Summary:
In Sky Hawkins’s family, leading your first heist is a major milestone–even more so than learning to talk, walk, or do long division. It’s a chance to gain power and acceptance within your family, and within society. But stealing your first treasure can be complicated, especially when you’re a wyvern–a human capable of turning into a dragon.
Embarking on a life of crime is never easy, and Sky discovers secrets about her mother, who recently went missing, the real reason her boyfriend broke up with her, and a valuable jewel that could restore her family’s wealth and rank in their community.
With a handpicked crew by her side, Sky knows she has everything she needs to complete her first heist, and get her boyfriend and mother back in the process. But then she uncovers a dark truth about were-dragon society–a truth more valuable and dangerous than gold or jewels could ever be.

My Review:

I thought the book was such a magical read with dragons and unicorns. I did love the idea of magical creatures living with the humans and I also enjoyed the main characters storyline.

I highly enjoyed Sky in this book. Her dragon family had been outcasted because of something her mom did and now she’s the only one who wants to reunite with her. She’s ready to do her first heist as a dragon and follow in her mothers footsteps. What secrets will she discover? Who can she trust to help her out?

Sky is head strong and willing to keep her family together.

This book is full of family secrets and dragons in hiding. It’s a fun adventure for all ages. Looking for a new fantasy read then this book will be for you.

It comes out December 4th, 2019.

One lucky reader will get a chance to win a arc of the book.

Goodluck and Happy Reading!

Lux Beginnings: Obsidian & Onxy by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Book Summary:
Now available together for the first time, don’t miss Obsidian and Onyx, the first two books in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s bestselling Lux series. Also includes bonus content exclusive to the print edition! “A thrilling ride from start to finish,” says RT Book Reviews.
Obsidian
There’s an alien next door. And with his looming height and eerie green eyes, he’s hot… until he opens his mouth. He’s infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, he marks me. Turns out he has a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal his abilities and the only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until my alien mojo fades. If I don’t kill him first, that is.
Onyx
Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems. I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me to?

My Review:

Thought Lux Beginnings was out of this world. This book been out for a while. First time reading this series. There are  five books in the series. For those new to it there are two in one books  speical editions. Now onto my review. I so did love the story and most of the characters in the book.

I did like Katy in the book a lot. She comes off shelter from the world. Always have her nose in a book and updating her book blog. Until she meets her hot neighbors, Dee and Deamon. Finding out their aliens next door, how much trouble can she get in?

I like Dee in the book much better than her twin brother Deamon. Deamon comes off as a jerk throughout the book. He very protected of his family. Dee comes off friendly and just wants to make friends with the new girl. Why are there aliens on earth in first place? What secrets are they hiding from their new neighbors?

These book  are quick reads for me. The book is filled with action packed, romance and maybe the end of the world. Find out what Deamon and Dee is for yourself. If you enjoy an bookworm falling in love with a alien then you might like this book.

Happy Reading!!

{Arc Review} Broken Thing by Lauren Oliver

Book Summary:
It’s been five years since Summer Marks was brutally murdered in the woods.
Everyone thinks Mia and Brynn killed their best friend. That driven by their obsession with a novel called The Way into Lovelorn the three girls had imagined themselves into the magical world where their fantasies became twisted, even deadly.
The only thing is: they didn’t do it.
On the anniversary of Summer’s death, a seemingly insignificant discovery resurrects the mystery and pulls Mia and Brynn back together once again. But as the lines begin to blur between past and present and fiction and reality, the girls must confront what really happened in the woods all those years ago—no matter how monstrous.

My Review:

Broken Things was such a good read. I like how friendships are tested when someone dies. Mia and Bynn bond when they where kids, drifted a part when Summer dies. There this huge mystery on what happen to Summer years ago.

Mia and Bynn used to do everything together but when Summer dies they drifted a part. Dealing with the aftermath of their friend death.  I like the friendship they share together in the book. Sad to see how different they became after Summer death. Now fate draws the girls back together. Will they be able to move on from the past and rekindle their friendship? What really happen to Summer years ago?

This book was a quick read. I did enjoy every minute of it. There some twists in the book. Also  there be a lot of guessing on who killed Summer. If you want to cozy up with a good mystery then this book will be for you. It recently came out.

Sorry wordpress been acting up and having trouble reviewing things.
