{Arc Review} Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth

Summary:
A decade ago near Chicago, five teenagers defeated the otherworldly enemy known as the Dark One, whose reign of terror brought widespread destruction and death. The seemingly un-extraordinary teens—Sloane, Matt, Ines, Albie, and Esther—had been brought together by a clandestine government agency because one of them was fated to be the “Chosen One,” prophesized to save the world. With the goal achieved, humankind celebrated the victors and began to mourn their lost loved ones.
Ten years later, though the champions remain celebrities, the world has moved forward and a whole, younger generation doesn’t seem to recall the days of endless fear. But Sloane remembers. It’s impossible for her to forget when the paparazzi haunt her every step just as the Dark One still haunts her dreams. Unlike everyone else, she hasn’t moved on; she’s adrift—no direction, no goals, no purpose. On the eve of the Ten Year Celebration of Peace, a new trauma hits the Chosen: the death of one of their own. And when they gather for the funeral at the enshrined site of their triumph, they discover to their horror that the Dark One’s reign never really ended.

My Review:
I thought this book was a very interesting read at times. Yea it did became somewhat confusing in the beginning.

The storyline was just all over the place. You have to read this book in a quiet place to understand what is going on. Mostly the summary explain the book better than I can. Still it ends like a stand alone, so don’t know what they have in store for a book two.

I don’t have a favorite character yet in the book. The main girl Sloane is dealing for years of PTSD. She been dating Matt for years and she hates the spotlight. She has this feeling that the dark one is still out there. There is Matt whi loves the spotlight and attention and don’t understand Sloane feelings at time. Also Esither who is so full of herself and popular youtuber. She always picking on Sloane. Not even sure why they are friends.

After a friends death, Sloane. Matt and Esther get wisk away to a different universe. Where they are task to defeat another dark one or they won’t be able to go home. This parallel universe might hold the key on the origins of the dark one and who he really is…

This read was a like for me not love it. It kinda was  very slow and confusing start. A lot goes on within the book and have to pay very close attention to get what is going. I was hoping to love this read bc I enjoy Divergent series by this author so much. Maybe book teo will be a bit better.

If you unsure reading this book, then try it out at the library and see for yourself.

But can she stop an enemy who knows her every move and will stop at nothing to retain her power… including going after the ones Snow loves?

My Review:

A Snow White retelling you might fall in love with.

Snow White keeps herself hidden from the world after her father disappears and her mother pass away. She still is nice to the people that work with her family and care for her kingdom, but her stepmother forces her to stay hidden. No matter what rags she wears, she always carries a nice heart.

The evil Queen is hated by the people. She may everything she wants, the beauty and power, but it is never enough for her. Afraid of her beauty fading, she finally going have Snow kill once and for all.

This book was a very interesting retelling of Snow White. It a little more darker version than the Disney movie. I enjoy they have a back ground of the evil Queen, on how she became so mean. Also Snow in it is a little fighter and very smart. She was more time with the prince and for them to fall in love and take back the kingdom. In order to break Snow the Queen poison the prince. It very different and full of twists. I did enjoy the evil Queen story a lot more. That was a nice refresh take.

Looking for something fun and exciting to read, check out Mirror Mirror!!

{Arc Review} A Breathe too Late by Rocky Callen

Book Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Ellie had no hope left. Yet the day after she dies by suicide, she finds herself in the midst of an out-of-body experience. She is a spectator, swaying between past and present, retracing the events that unfolded prior to her death.
But there are gaps in her memory, fractured pieces Ellie is desperate to re-assemble. There’s her mother, a songbird who wanted to break free from her oppressive cage. The boy made of brushstrokes and goofy smiles who brought color into a gray world. Her brooding father, with his sad puppy eyes and clenched fists. Told in epistolary-like style, this deeply moving novel sensitively examines the beautiful and terrible moments that make up a life and the possibilities that live in even the darkest of places. Perfect for fans of the critically-acclaimed Speak, I’ll Give You the Sun, and If I Stay.

My Review:

What happens when you pass away?

Ellie has her life ahead of her. She keeps mostly to herself and has one friend to count on. One day she takes her life and has an outer body experience.

She digs deep into the past and the furture. Ellie slowly regrets leaving her life behind and letting her love ones suffer. All she ever wanted to break from the pain and suffer she endure for years.

This book was a very emotional journey for Ellie. She suffer very bad abuse at the hands of her father and watches her mother suffer also. Ellie endure deep mental and physical abuse. Also she Feeling alone and scare to speak up. It was hard reading how much she hurt over the years. You get an look at what lead her to ending it all. Also you get to see how her friend and mother handling on what happen. This book might be sensitive to some readers. It about grief and moving on.

A Breathe Too Late recently came out today if you want to check it out.

{Arc Review} Super Adjacent by Crystal Cestari

Book Summary:
Claire has always wanted to work with superheroes, from collecting Warrior Nation cards as a kid to drafting “What to Say to a Hero” speeches in her diary. Now that she’s landed a coveted internship with the Chicago branch of Warrior Nation, Claire is ready to prove she belongs, super or not. But complicating plans is the newest WarNat hero, Girl Power (aka Joy), who happens to be egotistical and self-important . . . and pretty adorable.
Bridgette, meanwhile, wants out of WarNat. After years of dating the famous Vaporizer (aka Matt), she’s sick of playing second, or third, or five-hundredth fiddle to all the people-in-peril in the city of Chicago. Of course, once Bridgette meets Claire-who’s clearly in need of a mentor and wingman-giving up WarNat becomes slightly more complicated. It becomes a lot more complicated when Joy, Matt, and the rest of the heroes go missing, leaving only Claire and Bridgette to save the day.
In this fresh and funny take on the world of supers, author Crystal Cestari spotlights what it’s like to be the seemingly non-super half of a dynamic duo with banter-filled romance and bold rescues perfect for readers seeking a great escape.

My Review:

In a world where anyone who has super powers, can be train to be a superhero.

Claire is a such a fanatic for warrior nation. She would do anything to win the internship to work there. Always idolizing her the heroes at work. With a chance meeting with new superhero, Joy. Claire world turns upside down when working at warrior nation. Nothing is as it seems working there.

Bridgette is in to deep in the world of superheroes after dating one. She loves Matt, but not his line of work. Bridgette always get either hurt or kidnap. She wants away from all the superhero stuff and become an artist. Yet she still cares deeply for May.

Bridgette and Claire met when they both get kidnap and become instant friends. Now they must work together to save the world when superheroes go missing.

I really did enjoy this book. You have tons of action and fun going on. The storyline was pretty creative which I did enjoy. I like how to Bridgette and Claire interact with each. They both have something in common like dating a superhero and Bridgette is there to help Claire along the way with advice. This book was a quick read, and full of surprises

The book recently came out, so check it out it if you can.

What I am Reading Monday

Summary:

Our heroes are back… kind of. From the bestselling co-authors of the Illuminae Files comes the second book in the epic series about a squad of misfits, losers, and discipline cases who just might be the galaxy’s best hope for survival.

First, the bad news: an ancient evil—you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal—is about to be unleashed. The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They’ve just got to take care of a few small distractions first.

Like the clan of gremps who’d like to rearrange their favorite faces.

And the cadre of illegit GIA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be, who’ll stop at nothing to get their hands on Auri.

Then there’s Kal’s long-lost sister, who’s not exactly happy to see her baby brother, and has a Syldrathi army at her back. With half the known galaxy on their tails, Squad 312 has never felt so wanted.

When they learn the Hadfield has been found, it’s time to come out of hiding. Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them. But time is short, and if Auri can’t learn to master her powers as a Trigger, the squad and all their admirers are going to be deader than the Great Ultrasaur of Abraaxis IV.

Shocking revelations, bank heists, mysterious gifts, inappropriately tight bodysuits, and an epic firefight will determine the fate of the Aurora Legion’s most unforgettable heroes—and maybe the rest of the galaxy as well.

Unfortunately for Patty, Rose Gold is no longer her weak little darling…
And she’s waited such a long time for her mother to come home.

My Review:

What happens what the person you love, hurts you the most?

Rose Gold all her life thought she was extremely sick, always in and out of hospitals. Her mother been by her side throughout it all.

Then one say she learn from a friend, that her own mother was faking her being sick for years. When her mom goes away to prison for years, Rose plans her revenge for payback.

I really did enjoyed this read. It was kinda fun and very twisted in some ways. Also I love the cover to it so much. The pink cover is so pretty looking.

Rose in the book you kinda feel bad for her. After her mom gets sent away, she has to pick up the aftermath. She has to work hard, deal with abuse she suffer. Mostly she hardly has any friends she can trust. Seems like everyone just like her for the fame. Along with everything else, she learns to lie like her mother. Rose is not that so different than her mother.

It was a quick read which I again did enjoy and the craziness within the book. Hope more people check it out. It is an adult fiction.

Happy Reading!!!

{Arc Review} Girls Save the World in This One by Ash Parsons

Book Summary:
June’s whole life has been leading up to this: ZombieCon, the fan convention celebrating all things zombies. She and her two best friends plan on hitting all the panels, photo ops, and meeting the heartthrob lead of their favorite zombie apocalypse show Human Wasteland.
And when they arrive everything seems perfect, though June has to shrug off some weirdness from other fans—people shambling a little too much, and someone actually biting a cast member. Then all hell breaks loose and June and her friends discover the truth: real zombies are taking over the con. Now June must do whatever it takes to survive a horde of actual brain-eating zombies—and save the world.

My Review:

It’s Zombiecon, a perfect way to have a great time with friends. Even met some famous actors along the way. What happens when real zombies attack it?

June has the perfect might plan out with her two best friends. She going to met her favorite actors. Try to avoid drama with a ex friend. June will make sure the day goes as plan.

Then she notice strange hazel mats in costumes walking in. Not thinking anything will happen at the time, she enjoy meeting the stars. Then at one panel, a crazy scientist warns them the dead is here. Now June must use her smarts and try to get her friends and actors out alive.

This book is such a enjoyable read. I enjoy the whole zombie con convention idea. It was neat how real zombies blend in with the cosplayers. Half the time everyone enjoying themselves and acting everything is normal. It was pretty much fun read.

Are you ready for zombiecon? Book recently just came out.

{Arc Review} The New Husband by D.J Palmer

Book Summary:
Just because you love someone doesn’t mean you know them.
Nina Garrity learned that the hard way after discovering that her missing husband, Glen, had been leading a double life with another woman. But Glen’s gone–presumably drowned while fishing on his boat–so she can’t confront him about the affair or any of his other misdeeds. A year and a half after the accident, Nina considers herself a widow, even though the police never found a body. Following a chance encounter with Simon Fitch, a teacher from her daughter Maggie’s middle school, Nina finds love again and has hopes of putting her shattered life back together.
Simon, a widower still grieving the suicide of his first wife, has found his dream girl in Nina. His charm and affections help break through to a heart hardened by betrayal. Nina’s teenage son, Connor, embraces Simon as the father he wishes his dad could have been, but Maggie sees a far darker side to this new man in their lives. Even Nina’s good friends wonder if Simon is supremely devoted–or dangerously possessive.
But Nina is committed, not only to her soon-to-be new husband but also to resuming her former career as a social worker. Before she can move forward, however, Nina must first clear her conscience that she’s not making another terrible choice in a man. In doing so, she will uncover the shocking truth: the greatest danger to her, and her children, are the lies people tell themselves.

My Review:

Love is blind.

Nina life turn upside when her husband went missing at sea. Now she has Simon who came in and saved the day. He charming, cares for the family and support them.

Connor likes Simon as a father figure after his dad goes missing. He thinks his father is dead and has move. Connor supports the big move and his mom choice to be with Simon, think his sister can be a little more open with Simon and be there for him and his mom.

Maggie always butting heads with Simon. They never seem to get along. She also believes her father is alive and holding out hope. She don’t care what misdeeds her dad has done. Maggie just want him back in her life again. She is the first one to notice something off with Simon.

This book was like watching a crazy lifetime movie on tv. Which I do watch a lot of lifetime movies. I did liked the book. It had some nice twists in it. Yes it deals with sensitive topic of emotional abuse. It’s an adult thriller so anything can happen.

I really like Maggie in the book. She tries hard warning her mom about Simon, but her mom and Connor don’t want to hear it. Nina and Connor think Maggie being over dramatic with Simon. Hopefully Maggie can convince her family about Simon before it’s to late.

I understand with Nina she wants to find love again and trust men. After her husband went missing, she find out he cheated on her and lost his job. After being hurts by him, she is so eager to please Simon. She gets afraid Simon leaving her like her husband did so she does everything he says, even if she blind on how much Maggie is hurting.

This book recently came out this week. Looking a new adult mystery/thriller then you might like The New Husband.
