{Arc Review} House of Dragons by Jessica Cluess

Summary:
Five royal houses will hear the call to compete in the Trial for the dragon throne. A liar, a soldier, a servant, a thief, and a murderer will answer it. Who will win?
When the Emperor dies, the five royal houses of Etrusia attend the Call, where one of their own will be selected to compete for the throne. It is always the oldest child, the one who has been preparing for years to compete in the Trial. But this year is different. This year, these five outcasts will answer the call….
THE LIAR: Emilia must hide her dark magic or be put to death.
THE SOLDIER: Lucian is a warrior who has sworn to never lift a sword again.
THE SERVANT: Vespir is a dragon trainer whose skills alone will keep her in the game.
THE THIEF: Ajax knows that nothing is free–he must take what he wants.
THE MURDERER: Hyperia was born to rule and will stop at nothing to take her throne.

My Review:

House of Dragons was action packed and full of fun. Well there may be some blood shed also. I was excited to get my hand on the arc at ala this year. Will end up buying it when I can. The world building is not as glamorous as you think it is. It’s full of bad people and killers. Of course they have dragons to make them more deadly. The main characters are ruthless and selfish at times but I did full in love with their dragons.

Emilia is the brains of the group. She knows everything between politics and the dragon trials. Her sister was supposed to go this year but she end up being picked. Now she must fight for her life or have her secery exposed.

Lucian is a big fighter and killer at the start of the book. He wants nothing to do with the dragon trials, but then he gets the call. He notice something different at first at the trials when he see Emilia his old best friend there. Lucian may seem uncaring, but I think Emilia brings out the best in him at times.

Vespir loves to train dragons and has a forbidden love with someone. Never she thought she would get call. She is no royal or even has a house name. Vespir knows nothing much of the ins and out being a royal, so why was she picked to rule?

Ajax is like the comedian in the group. He hardly takes anything series. Ajax is just thief and only cares about himself and his dragon, Dog. He feels sorry for Vespir because he knows they both are the weaknesses leak in the trials.

Hyperia is ruthless and would do anything to lead the kingdom, even kill her own sister to complete. She seems to have a soft side a little bit around Ajak, but I would not trust her. Only ruling the kingdom matters to her, even if she might have to kill again.

There so characters you either love or hate them in the end. The world building and everything was fantastic. Have not yet fallen in love with a character in the book yet.

Mostly I was falling in love with a dragon name, Dog. He has such a cute personality in the book. Dog acts like a dog at times. He is rut of the litter and just want to have fun and be love. While the other dragons are so series about their job. That enough on dragon the dog. I could go on forever.

This review is very long sorry. Lots of story and tons of characters to sort through. So many also twists and turns. Who will win in the end? I’m so looking forward for book two to come out.

Happy Reading!!!

Summary:

The second book in a series where your favorite literary characters come to life, inspired by the timeless classic, Little Women!

There’s no one better than the boy next door. At least not according to Aurora Campbell, fourteen, who has been in love with Tobias May since their very first sandbox kiss. The problem is, he’s in love with her older sister, Merrilee. And Merri is already dating one of his best friends.

Rory is learning all about pining as her class reads The Great Gatsby, a book she doesn’t find “great” at all. Also not great—her GPA, something she needs to fix, quickly, if she’d like to apply for the chance to spend a week studying art with her hero in New York City over winter break. But when Ms. Gregoire assigns her to read Little Women for extra credit, Rory discovers more than she expected—both about herself and Toby. Maybe she wasn’t in love with the boy next door. . . but the boy next story.

Love is complicated, and it’s all about to get even trickier for Rory at Reginald R. Hero Prep . . . where with the help of one quirky English teacher, students’ fantasies come true, often with surprising consequences.

Summary:

Eliza takes center stage in this swoon-worthy third installment of the Bookish Boyfriends series

Eliza Gordon-Fergus is an expert rule-follower. She has to be; her scientist parents dictate her day-to-day decisions, and forbid her from dating. Which is why she finds Curtis Cavendish maddening. He’s never punished for his class clown antics—and worse, his mischief actually masks brilliance. Like, give-Eliza-a-run-for-valedictorian brilliance.
When Eliza reads Frankenstein for English class, she’s left feeling more like an experiment than a daughter. Curtis agrees to trade her Anne of Green Gables under one condition: She has to beat him at the science fair. Eliza knows they’re supposed to be competing, but the more time they spend together, the more she realizes she’s in over her head. Because one thing’s certain about Curtis: He makes Eliza want to break all the rules.

{Arc Review} The Dark In-Between by Elizabeth Hrib

Summary:

Eager to avoid the rumors that follow her, Casey returns home for the summer, only to find that Liddy won’t let her go. A series of violent nightmares and soulless whispers threaten to drive her mad, but when she watches a boy fall from the sky, she suspects she’s actually crossed that line.

Now, in order to save her best friend, Casey must learn to walk these mysterious and dangerous paths or else risk losing Liddy to something worse than death.

My Review:

What happens during a deadly boating trip?

The Dark In-Between was such an interesting read. It was love at first sight because of the cover. Such a creepy feel good book about coping with grief and moving on. This book was such an emotional roller coaster and thrill ride. Thought the characters pull you in and make you fall in love.

I like Casey in the book. She is a survivor of a horrible boating accident. Her and Libby where having fun which took a deadly turn for the worse. Only Casey lives, while Libby dies. Casey deals with so much guilt on what happen and trying to hard to move on.

Moving on from Libby proves a little difficult when she keeps hearing her inside her head. Then one mysterious night an angel nearly crash into her car. Turn out that night of the accident turn Casey into something else and now she must save her friend soul.

I love the original of this book and still can’t get over the cover to it. It has such an good paranormal feeling to it. You will with emotional grief and angels taking over the world. It was pretty much action pack and each character has their way of making things fun. The book came out already, so check it out.

So this is Love by Elizabeth Lim

Book Summary:
What if Cinderella never tried on the glass slipper? Unable to prove that she’s the missing princess, and unable to bear life under Lady Tremaine any longer, Cinderella attempts a fresh start, looking for work at the palace as a seamstress. But when the Grand Duke appoints her to serve under the king’s visiting sister, Cinderella becomes witness to a grand conspiracy to take the king-and the prince-out of power, as well as a longstanding prejudice against fairies, including Cinderella’s own Fairy Godmother. Faced with questions of love and loyalty to the kingdom, Cinderella must find a way to stop the villains of past and present . . . before it’s too late.

My Review:

Are you ready to dive into a new Cinderella story with a twist?

Cinderella is a classic fairytale from Disney. It had been retold over the years. There some dark versions of it and different types of happily ever afters also. This book gave Cinderella more character and in depth which I did enjoy.

This time around Cinderella has more personality in the book. She is still caring person when her stepmother and sisters hurt her so much. Instead of the prince finding her in the end with the glass slipper, she ends up being sold.

Cinderella is resourceful in this book and manage to escape and work at the castle. Trying hard to get the price to notice her. She still has self doubt with him accepting who she is bc of her status and abuse over years from stepmother and stepsisters. Along the way she learn of an evil plot to dethrone the prince. Also Cinderella finds out magic been outlaw so she will try her best to save her godmother and help the people around her out.

So much is going on at once with the book. Which I did enjoy reading. This retelling is fun and a little action pack. Also I do love the cover for this book. Did enjoy the prince had his own story in the book as well. I did like the prince in the book. He is kind and cares about his people. Also he has an open mind in changing old rules to better the kingdom.

Looking for an awesome new fairytale read then check out So This is Love.

No one knows how the world will end.

On a secret compound in the Washington wilderness, Honey Juniper and her sisters are training to hunt, homestead, and protect their own.

Train for every situation.

But when danger strikes from within, putting her sisters at risk, training becomes real life, and only one thing is certain:

Nowhere is safe.

My Review:

What happens when you think the world is ending?

You become a doomsday prepper.

Last Girls was an original story and has very memorable characters. It was a unique read which I throughly enjoyed.

Honey, I liked in the book. She is mostly the leader for her sisters. Always must follow the rules and never trusts an outsider. That is until a boy takes an interest in her and makes her think there might be more than just prepping.

Blue is so sweet in the book. She just follows whatever her sister does at times. Also she has a thing for animals. Pretty neat she has her own Hawk.

Birdie is the rule breaker and wants more out of life. She is in love and rebels against Honey sometimes.

I like the bond all three sisters have for one other. They’re willing to stick together no matter how bad it gets. Also it was very insightful seeing into the world of a doomsday prepper. The cover was a nice take of the sisters also. Overall the book was a good read and love the twists in it.

Thanks for letting me be a part of blog tour. Looking forward to reading more book by this author.

{Cover Reveal} Lyrics & Curses by Candace Robinson

Lyrics & Curses
Candace Robinson
Published by: Filles Vertes Publishing
Publication date: November 10th 2020
Genres: Paranormal, Romance, Young Adult

Lark Espinoza could get lost in her music—and she’s not so sure anyone in her family would even care to find her. Her trendy, party-loving twin sister and her mother-come-lately Beth, who’s suddenly sworn off men and onto homemaking, don’t understand her love of cassette tapes, her loathing of the pop scene, or her standoffish personality. For outcast Lark, nothing feels as much like a real home as working at Bubble’s Oddities store and trying to attract the attention of the cute guy who works at the Vinyl shop next door—the same one she traded lyrical notes with in class.

Auden Ellis silences the incessant questions in his own head with a steady stream of beats. Despite the unconditional love of his aunt-turned-mother, he can’t quit thinking about the loss of his parents—or the possibility he might end up afflicted with his father’s issues. Despite his connection with lyric-loving Lark, Auden keeps her at arm’s length because letting her in might mean giving her a peek into something dangerous.

When two strangers arrive in town, one carrying a mysterious, dark object and the other playing an eerie flute tune, Lark and Auden find that their painful pasts have enmeshed them in a cursed future. Now, they must come to terms with their budding attraction while helping each other challenge the reflection they see in the mirror. If they fail, they’ll be trapped for eternity in a place beyond reality.

What I am Reading Monday

Summary:

Pretty Little Liars meets Burn for Burn in this thrilling debut from Wattpad star Ann Valett.

Chloe Whittaker is out for revenge.

Last year her best friend Monica’s life was unceremoniously ruined by the most popular students at their high school, so this year Chloe plans to take each and every one of them down. She’s traded in her jeans and T-shirts for the latest designer clothes, erased anything on social media that would tie her to Monica (and blow her cover), and carefully figured out how she will befriend the members of the clique, find out their deepest and darkest secrets, and reveal them to the world.

Chloe has the perfect plan . . . but there’s one thing she didn’t prepare for. And that’s falling for someone she’s determined to destroy. The closer she gets to uncovering the secrets the in-crowd is determined to cover up, the more she realizes that she is going to have to choose between betraying her oldest friend or the boy who’s captured her heart

Summary:

A seductive, gothic-infused tale of literary suspense — the debut of a spectacular new voice — about a dangerously curious young undergraduate whose rebelliousness leads her to discover a shocking secret involving an exclusive circle of students . . . and the dark truth beneath her school’s promise of prestige.

You are in the house and the house is in the woods.
You are in the house and the house is in you . . .

Catherine House is a school of higher learning like no other. Hidden deep in the woods of rural Pennsylvania, this crucible of reformist liberal arts study with its experimental curriculum, wildly selective admissions policy, and formidable endowment, has produced some of the world’s best minds: prize-winning authors, artists, inventors, Supreme Court justices, presidents. For those lucky few selected, tuition, room, and board are free. But acceptance comes with a price. Students are required to give the House three years—summers included—completely removed from the outside world. Family, friends, television, music, even their clothing must be left behind. In return, the school promises its graduates a future of sublime power and prestige, and that they can become anything or anyone they desire.

Among this year’s incoming class is Ines, who expects to trade blurry nights of parties, pills, cruel friends, and dangerous men for rigorous intellectual discipline—only to discover an environment of sanctioned revelry. The school’s enigmatic director, Viktória, encourages the students to explore, to expand their minds, to find themselves and their place within the formidable black iron gates of Catherine.

For Ines, Catherine is the closest thing to a home she’s ever had, and her serious, timid roommate, Baby, soon becomes an unlikely friend. Yet the House’s strange protocols make this refuge, with its worn velvet and weathered leather, feel increasingly like a gilded prison. And when Baby’s obsessive desire for acceptance ends in tragedy, Ines begins to suspect that the school—in all its shabby splendor, hallowed history, advanced theories, and controlled decadence—might be hiding a dangerous agenda that is connected to a secretive, tightly knit group of students selected to study its most promising and mysterious curriculum.

Combining the haunting sophistication and dusky, atmospheric style of Sarah Waters with the unsettling isolation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go, Catherine House is a devious, deliciously steamy, and suspenseful page-turner with shocking twists and sharp edges that is sure to leave readers breathless.

Comes out May 12th.
