Grown by Tiffany D Jackson

Summary:
Korey Fields is dead.
When Enchanted Jones wakes with blood on her hands and zero memory of the previous night, no one—the police and Korey’s fans included—has more questions than she does. All she really knows is that this isn’t how things are supposed to be. Korey was Enchanted’s ticket to stardom.
Before there was a dead body, Enchanted was an aspiring singer, struggling with her tight knit family’s recent move to the suburbs while trying to find her place as the lone Black girl in high school. But then legendary R&B artist Korey Fields spots her at an audition. And suddenly her dream of being a professional singer takes flight.
Enchanted is dazzled by Korey’s luxurious life but soon her dream turns into a nightmare. Behind Korey’s charm and star power hides a dark side, one that wants to control her every move, with rage and consequences. Except now he’s dead and the police are at the door. Who killed Korey Fields?
All signs point to Enchanted.

My Review:

Being a superstar is not all that glamorous.

Enchanted has the voice and the look to become famous one day. During a singing competition, Korey Felids took a special interest in her. Soon after her life turn upside down and must find a way to break free.

Grown was such an very tense read from the beginning to the end. The main character, Enchanted is so young and innocent within the book. She is dragged into this world of drugs, sex and abuse. This book deals with a lot of sensitive topics and being a singing is not as glamorous it seems.

Enchanted don’t know anybody in the singing world. She gets brainwash by Korey Feilds charm and trust him so much. He keeps her isolated from her friends and family. She really has no one to trust nor understand what’s happening. Enchanted slowly starts loosing herself and doing everything Korey says and drink weird stuff each night. When Korey suddenly dies, will be Enchanted be free finally from the abuse?

I read this book in one night. It has so many twists and turns until the very end. I had to read the ending again and again bc I was shock on what happen. This book may have trigger warnings and very disturbing sensitive topics. In the beginning of book there are warnings also. This book was very detailed and can easily get lost in it. So worth a read..

Crownchasers by Rebecca Coffindaffer

Summary:
A deadly competition for the throne will determine more than just the fate of the empire in this riveting duology opener, perfect for fans of The Hunger Games, Aurora Rising, and Three Dark Crowns.

Why would she choose to be trapped in a palace when she could be having wild adventures exploring a thousand-and-one planets in her own ship?
But when Alyssa’s uncle becomes gravely ill, his dying wish surprises the entire galaxy. Instead of naming her as his successor, he calls for a crownchase, the first in seven centuries. Representatives from each of the empire’s prime families—including Alyssa—are thrown into a race to find the royal seal, which has been hidden somewhere in the empire. The first to find the seal wins the throne.
Alyssa’s experience as an explorer makes her the favorite to win the crown she never wanted. And though she doesn’t want to be empress, her duty to her uncle compels her to participate in this one last epic adventure. But when the chase turns deadly, it’s clear that more than just the fate of the empire is at stake. Alyssa is on her most important quest yet—and only time will tell if she’ll survive it.

My Review:

The race is on for the Crown!

After the king passed away he chose his niece, Alyssa to enter the race. It been so many years since they had a Crownchasers race, so it time for a big family reunion. Alyssa not really thrill being force into the race. She rather just explore the world more then take the throne. She forms an unlikely partnership with someone who be a perfect fit to rule. Who will win in the end?

Crownchasers was very action packed and fun. I enjoy the storyline so much about the race and Alyssa I liked in the book also. Alyssa is smart and can beat her family for the crown, but she mostly lay back and don’t really care about the chase. This book is full of adventure and twists in very corner.

If your in the mood for some new scifi read, then check out, Crownchasers!!

Happy Reading!!!!

Those Who Prey by Jennifer Moffett

Summary:
College life isn’t what Emily expected.
She expected to spend freshman year strolling through the ivy-covered campus with new friends, finally feeling like she belonged. Instead, she walks the campus alone, still not having found her place or her people so far away from home.
But then the Kingdom finds her.
The Kingdom, an exclusive on-campus group, offers everything Emily expected of college and more: acceptance, friends, a potential boyfriend, and a chance to spend the summer in Italy on a mission trip. But the trip is not what she thought it would be. Emily and the others are stripped of their passports and money. They’re cut off from their families back home. The Kingdom’s practices become increasingly manipulative and dangerous.
And someone ends up dead.

My Review:

What happens when you unknowingly join a cult?

Those who Prey was such an eye opening read. It shows you not to trust people you just met. Also that anyone can prey on people who are lonely. The storyline was so good and very tense. The characters you will like as well. The first couple pages draws you in good and you can’t seem to put this book down.

I did like Emily in the book. It’s her first time leaving home and doing college life. She tries to do the right thing with her roommate and it backfires. Emily becomes and outcast at school. Then a chance encounter with Josh change things.

She has a new friends to hang with, a new boy crush and get to go away to Italy for a bit. It all seems like a big dream come true, but once she enters Itlay things take a turn for the worse. Will Emily be able to escape the Kingdom?

This book was very suspenseful in the beginning to the end. So I read it in one sitting. Also look how pretty this cover to book. You can see how lonely Emily looks on it and I like the color pink. This book was something new to me. I never read anything about cults before, but this book blew my mind. It very eye opening as I said before. Just be cautious on new people you meet.

Summary:

When Mira flies home to spend Christmas with her mother in Pittsburgh, a record-breaking blizzard results in a cancelled layover. Desperate to get to her grief-ridden mother in the wake of a family death, Mira hitches a ride with a group of friendly college kids who were on her initial flight.
As the drive progresses and weather conditions become more treacherous, Mira realizes that the four other passengers she’s stuck in the car with don’t actually know one another.
Soon, they’re not just dealing with heavy snowfall and ice-slick roads, but the fact that somebody will stop at nothing to ensure their trip ends in a deadly disaster.

My Review:

What happens when you are stranded with five strangers in the car?

Mira will do anything to get home for Christmas to be with her mom. She is also willing to share a car ride with strangers. It should be a nice car ride, make some new friends, right? Things don’t go as plan as there is a storm coming and people missing things. Everyone is turning into a suspect and pointing fingers at each other. Everyone in the car has their own serects, so you don’t know who to trust. Will Mira ever make it home in time for Christmas?

Five Total Strangers was such a suspenseful read. Like you don’t even know who to trust at first. There been near car accidents misses and weird missing stuff during the trip. Some characters do things to make them look like suspects. This book does leave you on the edge of the seat until the very end. Also it was a short read and quick read to enjoy. Also I do like the cover of this book it kinda creepy feeling to it.

Will you be desperate enough to ride in a car with strangers?
