The Puppetmaster’s Apprentice by Lisa DeSelm

Summary:
Pinocchio meets Frankenstein in this dark fairy tale retelling where a young girl is commissioned to build an assassin for a dark-hearted tyrant.
Impressed by the work of the puppetmaster and his apprentice, Tavia’s ruler, The Margrave, has ordered dozens of life-size marionette soldiers to be sent to Wolfspire Hall. When the orders for more soldiers come in with increasingly urgent deadlines, the puppetmaster’s health suffers and Pirouette, his daughter and protégé, is left to build in his stead. But there is something far more twisted brewing at Wolfspire—the Margrave’s son wants Pirouette to create an assassin. And he wants her to give it life.
With Tavia teetering on the brink of war and her father dying in the dungeons, Pirouette has no choice but to accept. Racing against the rise of the next blue moon—the magic that will bring her creations to life—she can’t help but wonder, is she making a masterpiece…or a monster?

My Review:

There was once a lonely puppet master. He stole some fairy magic and made himself a daughter he always wanted….

Pirouette is a talented apprentice just like her father. Everyone in town loves the puppet master work and his talent. Then one the king force him to make huge orders of soldiers and a assassin. Slowly the work is to much and it’s up to Pirouette to save her father without risking her secrets being discovered. What’s the king plan for his new puppets?

This book was such a prefect retelling of Pinocchio. So much darker and more action packed then the disney story. Also I really love the cover to the book. The main character is so brave and lonely at times. She tries to keep herself hidden so she won’t expose her secert. You feel so bad for her in the book. She puts to much pressure on herself and protecting her father. Hardly never let anyone in.

The Puppetmaster’s Apprentice is a delightful read of fantasy and adventure. It fill with so much twists and turns until the very end. I love this better than the disney verison of Pinocchio.

Shine by Jessica Jung

Summary:
A Korean American teen is thrust into the competitive, technicolor world of K-pop, from Jessica Jung, K-pop legend and former lead singer of Girls Generation.
What would you give for a chance to live your dreams?
For seventeen-year-old Korean American Rachel Kim, the answer is almost everything. Six years ago, she was recruited by DB Entertainment—one of Seoul’s largest K-pop labels, known for churning out some of the world’s most popular stars. The rules are simple: Train 24/7. Be perfect. Don’t date. Easy right?
Not so much. As the dark scandals of an industry bent on controlling and commodifying beautiful girls begin to bubble up, Rachel wonders if she’s strong enough to be a winner, or if she’ll end up crushed… Especially when she begins to develop feelings for K-pop star and DB golden boy Jason Lee. It’s not just that he’s charming, sexy, and ridiculously talented. He’s also the first person who really understands how badly she wants her star to rise.

My Review:

What would you do to become famous?

Kim and her family moved back to Korea, so Kim had a shot to work in DB entertainment and make it to the top. She has the voice and the moves. With some high school drama going on a big shot hottie off limits, things can get complicated trying to be the star. Will Kim make it to the top?

Shine was one of those quick easy reads. It has music, off limit romance and drama. You get a look how difficult it is to become a star. You have everyone control who you speak to, date, what to wear. It’s like you loose yourself when you become famous. Plus you have some mean girls going after you. This has everything fun and the hardships on becoming a raising star. The aurthor of the book was a singing to girl generation. An korea pop group in real life. This is her story on what goes on behind the glam of the kpop world.

Breathless by Jennifer Niven

Summary:
Before: With graduation on the horizon, budding writer Claudine Henry is making plans: college in the fall, become a famous author, and maybe–finally–have sex. She doesn’t even need to be in love. Then her dad drops a bombshell: he’s leaving Claude’s mother. Suddenly, Claude’s entire world feels like a lie, and her future anything but under control.
After: Claude’s mom whisks them away to the last place Claude could imagine nursing a broken heart: a remote, mosquito-infested island off the coast of Georgia. But then Jeremiah Crew happens. Miah is a local trail guide with a passion for photography–and a past he doesn’t like to talk about. He’s brash and enigmatic, and even more infuriatingly, he’s the only one who seems to see Claude for who she wants to be. So when Claude decides to sleep with Miah, she tells herself it’s just sex, nothing more. There’s not enough time to fall in love, especially if it means putting her already broken heart at risk.

My Review:

What happen if life after graduation does not go as plan?

Claude seems to have her life in order and knows where she wants to go. But then one day her life turns upside after her father kicks out them out. Now she must learn how to deal with the outcome of her family falling a part and come with a new plan for herself.

The only thing Breathless about this book was the cover. Which I really did like the cover as you see the characters floating in the water. This book was just an alright read for me. The storyline was like flat and hardly any emotions I felt anything for the characters. I did love Jennifer Niven other two reads, but this one fell very short. The romance was kinda rush and the main characters where kind of like an open book with each other.

I’m sad about the main guy, Miah. I thought he would have such a darker pass and backstory. He was very open with Claude with everything. You think with all the warnings Claude get from his friends, that he had some deep dark past. Sadly that story fell flat also and not so dark.

Claude was alright in the book. She has a supportive friends, but kinda push them away when her folks get divorced and all. She makes it like her life is over, when it just beginning. I felt no connection with none main characters.

Sadly this book was not meant for me, but others might enjoy it better. If your unsure on reading book after this review, then try it yourself at the library.
