The Puppetmaster’s Apprentice by Lisa DeSelm

Pinocchio meets Frankenstein in this dark fairy tale retelling where a young girl is commissioned to build an assassin for a dark-hearted tyrant.
Impressed by the work of the puppetmaster and his apprentice, Tavia’s ruler, The Margrave, has ordered dozens of life-size marionette soldiers to be sent to Wolfspire Hall. When the orders for more soldiers come in with increasingly urgent deadlines, the puppetmaster’s health suffers and Pirouette, his daughter and protégé, is left to build in his stead. But there is something far more twisted brewing at Wolfspire—the Margrave’s son wants Pirouette to create an assassin. And he wants her to give it life.
With Tavia teetering on the brink of war and her father dying in the dungeons, Pirouette has no choice but to accept. Racing against the rise of the next blue moon—the magic that will bring her creations to life—she can’t help but wonder, is she making a masterpiece…or a monster?

My Review:

There was once a lonely puppet master. He stole some fairy magic and made himself a daughter he always wanted….

Pirouette is a talented apprentice just like her father. Everyone in town loves the puppet master work and his talent. Then one the king force him to make huge orders of soldiers and a assassin. Slowly the work is to much and it’s up to Pirouette to save her father without risking her secrets being discovered. What’s the king plan for his new puppets?

This book was such a prefect retelling of Pinocchio. So much darker and more action packed then the disney story. Also I really love the cover to the book. The main character is so brave and lonely at times. She tries to keep herself hidden so she won’t expose her secert. You feel so bad for her in the book. She puts to much pressure on herself and protecting her father. Hardly never let anyone in.

The Puppetmaster’s Apprentice is a delightful read of fantasy and adventure. It fill with so much twists and turns until the very end. I love this better than the disney verison of Pinocchio.

Happy Reading!!!
