My Review:

Ankou is man of mystery. He been cursed for nearly 300 years of unrest. During the night he fights monsters, while the day he turns into a skeleton. He lives in between the world of the living and dead for years. All he wants is forever death.

Flora world turns upside when she and her people gets attacked. Everyone dies, but her. She suffers the most and is lucky to be saved by Ankou. She trains to become a monster to work out her anger on what happen. Flora may hold the answers to Ankou getting his final death.

That Dark Infinity was such a awesome book. It was dark and deals with some sensitive issues. This fantasy story was unique and different. Not only was the story was bloody amazing, the cover is breathtaking. Even have characters you going to falk in love with. Prefect read for Halloween fans out there. No cliffhangers since it’s a standalone.

Looking for a good new standalone fantasy, then check out That Dark Infinity.

What I’m Reading Monday

Summary:

Once upon a time, there was a horrible girl…

Vanja Schmidt knows that no gift is freely given, not even a mother’s love–and she’s on the hook for one hell of a debt. Vanja, the adopted goddaughter of Death and Fortune, was Princess Gisele’s dutiful servant up until a year ago. That was when Vanja’s otherworldly mothers demanded a terrible price for their care, and Vanja decided to steal her future back… by stealing Gisele’s life for herself.

The real Gisele is left a penniless nobody while Vanja uses an enchanted string of pearls to take her place. Now, Vanja leads a lonely but lucrative double life as princess and jewel thief, charming nobility while emptying their coffers to fund her great escape. Then, one heist away from freedom, Vanja crosses the wrong god and is cursed to an untimely end: turning into jewels, stone by stone, for her greed.

Vanja has just two weeks to figure out how to break her curse and make her getaway. And with a feral guardian half-god, Gisele’s sinister fiancé, and an overeager junior detective on Vanja’s tail, she’ll have to pull the biggest grift yet to save her own life.

Margaret Owen, author of The Merciful Crow series, crafts a delightfully irreverent retelling of “The Goose Girl” about stolen lives, thorny truths, and the wicked girls at the heart of both.

Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao

Summary:

The boys of Huaxia dream of pairing up with girls to pilot Chrysalises, giant transforming robots that can battle the mecha aliens that lurk beyond the Great Wall. It doesn’t matter that the girls often die from the mental strain.

When 18-year-old Zetian offers herself up as a concubine-pilot, it’s to assassinate the ace male pilot responsible for her sister’s death. But she gets her vengeance in a way nobody expected—she kills him through the psychic link between pilots and emerges from the cockpit unscathed. She is labeled an Iron Widow, a much-feared and much-silenced kind of female pilot who can sacrifice boys to power up Chrysalises instead.

To tame her unnerving yet invaluable mental strength, she is paired up with Li Shimin, the strongest and most controversial male pilot in Huaxia. But now that Zetian has had a taste of power, she will not cower so easily. She will miss no opportunity to leverage their combined might and infamy to survive attempt after attempt on her life, until she can figure out exactly why the pilot system works in its misogynist way—and stop more girls from being sacrificed.

My Review:

What does giant robots and big mobsters have in common?

In a world where men suit up in big robots to fight monsters. Where woman are use to be either killed or helped the men out. Depends on how strong they are. Zetian volunteers to be co pilot, to have revenge for her sister’s death. She don’t really care if she dies afterwards. Soon she will discover there more to these robots and monsters story. Will Zetian live long enough for the truth to come out.

Iron Widow was such action packed. I love different the storyline is.. It was very exciting and tense at times. The main character, Zetian only care about her revenge then living. Soon she drag into the dark secrets of the robots and monster world. There hardly not much of romance in the book which I don’t mind. Zetian just ready to be killed after she gets revenge.

Also I love the cover and the outfits in the book so much. I’m so looking for book two to come out. Perfect fans who loved the anime Gundam Wing and Handmaid tale. It’s a men world and Zetain just trying to survive it.

The Violent Season by Sara Walters

Summary:

Every November, the people in Wolf Ridge are overwhelmed with a hunger for violence–at least that’s the town rumor. Last fall Wyatt Green’s mother was brutally murdered, convincing Wyatt that this yearning isn’t morbid urban legend. but rather a palpable force infecting her neighbors.

This year, Wyatt fears the call of violence has spread to her best friend Cash–who also happens to be the guy she can’t stop wanting no matter how much he hurts her. At the same time, she’s drawn to Cash’s nemesis Porter, now that they’re partners on an ambitious project for lit class. When Wyatt pulls away from Cash, and spends more time with Porter, she learns secrets about both of them she can’t forget.

And as the truth about her mother’s death begins to emerge from the shadows, Wyatt is faced with a series of hard realities about the people she trusts the most, rethinking everything she believes about what makes people decide to hurt each other.

My Review:

Time to cozy up with a new mystery/thriller book, The Violent Season. This short read was pretty good. It deals with people all seem to be dying every November in a small town. The latest November death was Wyatts mother a year ago. What mystery surrounds these deaths in November?

I did like Wyatt in the book. She is dealing with the lost of her mother and figuring out what happen that night. The cops seemed to gave up on the case. Wyatt seems to pull away from best friend Cash. She starts digging up clues online about her mother’s death. Trying to remember what happen, and figure out whodunit. Is there really some November sickness going around town or people really that bad?

Very fast pace mystery which I enjoyed. There might be some trigger warnings for readers in the book as it deal with assault. The cover is pretty creepy with blood coming out of the house. This read is perfect for the fall readers. Might read more books by this author.

Time to curl up by the fireplace and enjoy The Violent Season.

Happy Reading!!!

The Falling Girls by Hayley Krischer

Summary:

Shade and Jadis are everything to each other. They share clothes, toothbrushes, and even matching stick-and-poke tattoos. So when Shade unexpectedly joins the cheerleading team, Jadis can hardly recognize who her best friend is becoming.

Shade loves the idea of falling into a group of girls; she loves the discipline it takes to push her body to the limits alongside these athletes . Most of all, Shade finds herself drawn to The Three Chloes–the insufferable trio that rules the squad–including the enigmatic cheer captain whose dark side is as compelling as it is alarming.

Jadis won’t give Shade up so easily, though, and the pull between her old best friend and her new teammates takes a toll on Shade as she tries to forge her own path. So when one of the cheerleaders dies under mysterious circumstances, Shade is determined to get to the bottom of her death. Because she knows Jadis–and if her friend is responsible, doesn’t that mean she is, too?

My Review:

A story of two friendships drifting a part.

Shade is dying to be a flyer for the cheerleaders. She always been doing what Jadis tells her to. They been friends forever, but slowly the girls drift a part. All Shade ever want is Jadis support for becoming a cheerleader. Jadis tries her best being there for her best friend. She even gets gets mad for getting close to one of the cheerleaders Then one night one of the cheerleaders died and Shade starts to get suspicious of her best friend.

The Falling Girls deals with a lot of high school drama stuff. You have your typical cliques in the book. I really did love this book so much. Also like the friendship between Shade and Jadis. You can see a bit that Shade becoming her own person and still trying to please Jadis. She tries to balance everything out. While Jadis is kinda lost and not use to the changes in their friendship.

Also I like during all the drama between the cheerleaders and Jadis, you get a mini murder mystery in between in it. This book is full of surprises and it will be hard trusting anyone. Also the cover of the book I liked. It fits on what’s going on within it. I could this book over and over again. It was written really good and it was hard to put down. So check out The Falling Girls if your into teenage drama and a little mystery.

And at home, she’s the good one, her stoner older brother Joey’s babysitter. Everything was turned on its head, though, when she and Joey were in the car accident that killed Candy MontClaire. The car accident that revealed just how bad Joey’s drug habit was.

Four months later, Emmy’s junior year is starting, Joey is home from rehab, and the entire town of Mill Haven is still reeling from the accident. Everyone’s telling Emmy who she is, but so much has changed, how can she be the same person? Or was she ever that person at all?

Her brother, who might not be cured, the popular guy who lives next door, and most of all, many ghostie addicts who haunt the edges of the town. People spend so much time telling her who she is–it might be time to decide for herself.

My Review:

What happens when a person you love overdose?

All of Emory’s life she does everything her family has plan out for her. Then one day a accident happens, which changes her out look on life. She suffers from trauma seeing someone died and dealing her knee injury. Emory also dealing trying to hold the family together when her brother comes back home from rehab. There so much one girl can handle on her own.

You’d Be Home Now was such a emotional book. So very realistic book that deals with the problems of drugs abuse. This book may have some trigger warnings for some readers. Kathleen books always so well written and realistic. Her characters always deal with real life issues. This book was so good and looking forward to other books by aurthor. Even the cover is fits the book perfectly. Very quick read and tense at times, you have trouble putting it down.

White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson

Summary:

Marigold is running from ghosts. The phantoms of her old life keep haunting her, but a move with her newly blended family from their small California beach town to the embattled Midwestern city of Cedarville might be the fresh start she needs. Her mom has accepted a new job with the Sterling Foundation that comes with a free house, one that Mari now has to share with her bratty ten-year-old stepsister, Piper.

The renovated picture-perfect home on Maple Street, sitting between dilapidated houses, surrounded by wary neighbors has its . . . secrets. That’s only half the problem: household items vanish, doors open on their own, lights turn off, shadows walk past rooms, voices can be heard in the walls, and there’s a foul smell seeping through the vents only Mari seems to notice. Worse: Piper keeps talking about a friend who wants Mari gone.

But “running from ghosts” is just a metaphor, right?

As the house closes in, Mari learns that the danger isn’t limited to Maple Street. Cedarville has its secrets, too. And secrets always find their way through the cracks.

My Review:

White Smoke was such a good spooky read. I really did enjoyed the book and the twists. The centers around a family moving in to renovate a home. Somethings are better left alone. Also I enjoy the cover of the book, it fits the theme perfectly.

I liked Mari in the book. She have some mental issues herself, but she knows something is wrong with the house. First things started to disappeared, strange smell at night, and things go bump in the night. Mari might need to find the answers soon, before it’s to late.

This book has some crazy jump scares in it. It makes you want to sleep with the lights on. Hope they do make this book into a movie. Tiffany is known for her crazy ending twists in her books. Also the book was very hard to put down at times. I’m looking forward to more reads by this aurthor.

Looking for a spooky read, then check out White Smoke.
