What I’m Reading Monday

Eighteen-year-old Ziva prefers metal to people. She spends her days tucked away in her forge, safe from society and the anxiety it causes her, using her magical gift to craft unique weapons imbued with power.

Then Ziva receives a commission from a powerful warlord, and the result is a sword capable of stealing its victims’ secrets. A sword that can cut far deeper than the length of its blade. A sword with the strength to topple kingdoms. When Ziva learns of the warlord’s intentions to use the weapon to enslave all the world under her rule, she takes her sister and flees.

Joined by a distractingly handsome mercenary and a young scholar with extensive knowledge of the world’s known magics, Ziva and her sister set out on a quest to keep the sword safe until they can find a worthy wielder or a way to destroy it entirely.

A teenage blacksmith with social anxiety accepts a commission from the wrong person and is forced to go on the run to protect the world from the most powerful magical sword she’s ever made.

Summary:

I’ve never been a stranger to the darkness. But when darkness comes knocking and looks that good, who wouldn’t invite him in?

Draven is mysterious, evasive, and hot as sin. The only thing more infuriating than how much he won’t say is how obnoxious he is every time he does open his mouth. But when a group of strangers attacks me and he fights back, causing them to vanish into a cloud of black dust, I know Draven is more than he seems.

He finally shows me there’s a veil separating the world I know from a world of demons living all around us. Turns out, good and evil are just words. Some of the demons don’t fall into either category. And I’m realizing just how easily I fit in among the ancient warlocks, the divine soldiers, and the twisted supernaturals…

There’s so much more to me. To my past. And to what I am truly capable of than I ever thought possible. So when all signs point to me having the ability to unleash Hell on earth? I’ll have to decide if I want to do the world a solid and save it, or give it one hell of a makeover.

My Review:

Once Upon A Broken Heart was such a magical read. I love the storyline and the characters in it so much. Having the main character with pink hair is pretty cool. The book set in Stephanie Garber other book series Caraval. Which you don’t have to read right away to understand Once Upon a Broken Heart book. For me I would love to binge read finish Caraval series.

Evangeline is not your typical helpless girl. She mostly jumps into action then worry about the consequences later. In the beginning of book she willing to make a deal with a fate, drink poison to save her people. She don’t seem that concern for her life and only care about other people. Soon her debt and lies might catch up with her. Will se be able to get herself out of this big mess she might of caused?

I really love how this book there no instant love stuff going on. The book was such a quick read and love how fast pace everything is. I’m so looking forward to book two of coming. In the meantime will read Caraval series, I did love that first book. So I’m ready to finish that series.

What would you do for love? Check out Once A Broken Heart, which is out now.

The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith

Summary:

The Last Magician meets The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy in this thrilling and atmospheric historical fantasy following a young woman who discovers she has magical powers and is thrust into a battle between witches and wizards.

In 1911 New York City, seventeen-year-old Frances Hallowell spends her days as a seamstress, mourning the mysterious death of her brother months prior. Everything changes when she’s attacked and a man ends up dead at her feet—her scissors in his neck, and she can’t explain how they got there.

Before she can be condemned as a murderess, two cape-wearing nurses arrive to inform her she is deathly ill and ordered to report to Haxahaven Sanitarium. But Frances finds Haxahaven isn’t a sanitarium at all: it’s a school for witches. Within Haxahaven’s glittering walls, Frances finds the sisterhood she craves, but the headmistress warns Frances that magic is dangerous. Frances has no interest in the small, safe magic of her school, and is instead enchanted by Finn, a boy with magic himself who appears in her dreams and tells her he can teach her all she’s been craving to learn, lessons that may bring her closer to discovering what truly happened to her brother.

Frances’s newfound power attracts the attention of the leader of an ancient order who yearns for magical control of Manhattan. And who will stop at nothing to have Frances by his side. Frances must ultimately choose what matters more, justice for her murdered brother and her growing feelings for Finn, or the safety of her city and fellow witches. What price would she pay for power, and what if the truth is more terrible than she ever imagined?

My Review:

I really did enjoyed Witch Haven book. It something very different that I always read. It hard finding some good witch books out there also. The cover is pretty with the title and tiny little stars around it. It was a magical read that takes you on a huge adventure.

I did like Frances in the book. She is a hardworker and loves to sew. In the beginning she accidentally set off her magic and kills her boss. Lucky she gets notice by witches and get set away to learn. She just trying where she belong and who to trust in the end. After everything that had happen to her its hard to let anyone in. Is the school really up to something or is it all in Frances head?

So get ready to enjoy some adventure in a magical witch school. With some twists and crazy turns.

Unable to stand by the sidelines and watch their shared loved ones in pain, Julie is torn between spilling the truth about her calls with Sam and risking their connection and losing him forever.

My Review:

What if you had a second chance to say goodbye?

Julie just lost her best friend/ boyfriend. They did everything together and have plans for the future. Once Sam is gone, Julie just shuts down and spends a lot of time alone. She blames herself of his death. When she thinks of moving forward, she calls Sam and he picks up. Somehow he can only talk to her. He slowly tries to get Julie to move on and finally give peace to move on. But she is not ready to let….

You’ve Reached Sam deals with an unexpected death of a person you love. This book was very detailed and not on Julie is effected by his death, so are other people around. You can see that everyone is grieving Sam lost in their own way in the book. Some people blame Julie, also some still upset she disappeared after his death. This book is about trying to be there for each other and move on together. This was a very emotional book and I love it so much. Also the cover is very pretty of Sam and Julie. Could read this book over and over again.

Praise for THE FORGOTTEN MEMORIES OF VERA GLASS

A mind-bending YA novel about a world where everyone has a bit of magic in them—but some magic is being used to change the world in unspeakable ways

When she discovers her best friend Riven is experiencing the same strange feeling, they set out on a mission to uncover what’s going on. Everyone in Vera’s world has a special ability—a little bit of magic that helps them through the day. Perhaps someone’s ability is interfering with their memory? Photo Content from Anna Priemaza
Anna Priemaza grew up next to a field of cows, in a town with horse-and-buggy parking at 100% of the town’s two stores. She spent her days lying in a hammock under her tree fort, devouring book after book, and her nights watching her siblings play video game after video game.

For university, she moved to a city on a lake, where she studied literature and walked to her classes with her face in a book, and was somehow miraculously never hit by a car.

For law school, she moved across the country to an even bigger city, where she learned to knit and fell in love. And she realised that being in love meant she was tied forever to that new city called Edmonton, Alberta, so she settled in and wrote a book set there. And knowing she lived in the same city as her characters Kat and Meg made her feel more at home, even though there were no cows and no lake.

So now Anna is a young adult author, lawyer, and university instructor Edmonton, Alberta, where she lives with her husband and a head full of characters. She can never quite remember how old she is, as she knits like an old lady, practices law like an adult, fangirls over YouTubers like a teen, and dreams like a child.

Little Thieves by Margaret Owens

Summary

Once upon a time, there was a horrible girl…

Vanja Schmidt knows that no gift is freely given, not even a mother’s love–and she’s on the hook for one hell of a debt. Vanja, the adopted goddaughter of Death and Fortune, was Princess Gisele’s dutiful servant up until a year ago. That was when Vanja’s otherworldly mothers demanded a terrible price for their care, and Vanja decided to steal her future back… by stealing Gisele’s life for herself.

The real Gisele is left a penniless nobody while Vanja uses an enchanted string of pearls to take her place. Now, Vanja leads a lonely but lucrative double life as princess and jewel thief, charming nobility while emptying their coffers to fund her great escape. Then, one heist away from freedom, Vanja crosses the wrong god and is cursed to an untimely end: turning into jewels, stone by stone, for her greed.

Vanja has just two weeks to figure out how to break her curse and make her getaway. And with a feral guardian half-god, Gisele’s sinister fiancé, and an overeager junior detective on Vanja’s tail, she’ll have to pull the biggest grift yet to save her own life.

My Review:

What happens when you have everything?

Vanja had a hard life growing up. She became a handmaiden to Gisele. Soon she can’t stand her life and end up stealing Princess Gisele life. She becomes a prefect thief, until she steals from the wrong God. Now cursed and Gisele horrible fiance coming home early. She now must find a way to escape and break the curse.

Little Thieves was so good. I really love the storyline and world building. The characters are likeable and some you just hate. This fantasy read was very detailed. Also the cover is breathtaking.

I like how Vanja is not some helpless girl in the book. She just learns to take care of herself in order to survive. Even if it might hurt a lot of people in the long run. She has a selfish nature at times and is misunderstood. It hard getting anyone to trust her after everything. In the end she might have to learn to let guard down and trust unlikely people for help.

Looking for a new adventure, then dive into Little Thieves.

Happy Reading!!!
