Two Truths and a Lie by April Henry

Summary:

A group of teens are trapped in an old motel with a murderer in this chilling YA mystery by New York Times bestselling author April Henry.

Nell has always wanted to be an actor, but doubts her ability. As a member of her school’s theater program, she prefers working backstage. On the way to a contest, an unexpected blizzard strands her acting troupe in a creepy motel. Soon they meet a group of strangers from another high school—including the mysterious and handsome Knox, who insists they play the game Two Truths and a Lie. When it’s Nell’s turn, she draws a slip of paper inked in unfamiliar handwriting:

I like to watch people die.
I’ve lost count of how many people I’ve killed.

Suddenly a night of harmless fun turns into a matter of life and death. As guests go missing, it becomes clear that a murderer is hiding in their midst ready to strike again. In a room full of liars and performers, the truth is never quite what it seems. Nell is going to have to act like her life depends on it—because it does.

My Review:

Are you ready to play a game?

On their way to a actors competition, a blizzard hits. Everyone gets stuck at this creepy hotel. During their time there, the kids play two Truths and a Lie again. Also they find out some dark secrets about the hotel. When someone find day in the morning, they must discover the killer before it’s to late.

Two Truths and a Lie I liked. It a bit predictable for me, but I read tons of thrillers and mystery. I read a couple April Henry books before and loved them. This one to be kinda of fall flat for me. Some readers might like it better then me. Also I love the cover of the book. The characters within the books are just alright. Did not care much on who was going to die in the book. April Henry books can be suspenseful at times with twists. Will still read any books April Henry writes and new ones.

Despite my review, I still want other people read this book. Other readers might love it. Also if you unsure with my review, check it out from library. Sometimes you have to judge books for yourself not by others. I just write reviews and hope people discover also new books.

What I’m Reading Monday

Perfect for fans of Brigid Kemmerer and Tracy Wolff, the second novel in Molly E. Lee’s angels-and-demons YA series will keep readers turning pages until the very end.

I just saved the boy I’m falling for from a gruesome death by a demon. And what does he have to say? I’m the key to opening the gates of Hell. I mean, a thank-you would’ve been nice. Or another scorching-hot, forbidden kiss. Either way, destiny will have to find someone else to torment, because I’m so done.

Or I was, until my little sister starts cackling exorcist-style and stares at me with eyes that aren’t hers. They’re Marid’s, the Greater Demon I just kicked back to the dark realm he came from. Possessing Ray whenever he wants is his ultimate revenge.

The only way to break the tether between them includes a road trip through Hell, aka the Ather. I quickly discover nothing is as it seems in this place. Yeah, there are realms of terror, greed, and desire, but there’s also peace, and a beauty I never knew existed…and it’s eerily familiar.

With each obstacle we encounter, I slip a little further into the chaotic energy of my growing dark powers. And when an unexpected betrayal hits me square in the chest, I freefall into them.

Fate painted me as the monster of nightmares, and after this? Destiny is about to learn just how monstrous I can be.

The Seven―the Divine beings meant to protect the world―just declared war. On me. They took Ray, my baby sister, and now they’re using my boyfriend to do their dirty work.

Well, screw that.

I may not be able to wipe them off the face of the earth now, but I know what can.

Thanks to an Ather connection, I know about the Seven Scrolls. An ancient incantation made by the Creator to counteract the Seven’s great power, scattered into pieces across the world.

With the help of my new crew, we’re on the hunt. And with each located scroll, I face new battles, bloodier and harder than I’ve ever known before. But now the stakes are even higher, because Ray has always been my bright light in the darkness, and Draven is my hope when all seems lost, and if I don’t get them back?

Well, then I might just become the scariest legend the world has ever known

All Our Hidden Gifts by Carolina O’Donoghue

Summary:

Maeve’s strangely astute tarot readings make her the talk of the school, until a classmate draws a chilling and unfamiliar card—and then disappears.

After Maeve finds a pack of tarot cards while cleaning out a closet during her in-school suspension, she quickly becomes the most sought-after diviner at St. Bernadette’s Catholic school. But when Maeve’s ex–best friend, Lily, draws an unsettling card called The Housekeeper that Maeve has never seen before, the session devolves into a heated argument that ends with Maeve wishing aloud that Lily would disappear. When Lily isn’t at school the next Monday, Maeve learns her ex-friend has vanished without a trace.

Shunned by her classmates and struggling to preserve a fledgling romance with Lily’s gender-fluid sibling, Roe, Maeve must dig deep into her connection with the cards to search for clues the police cannot find—even if they lead to the terrifying Housekeeper herself. Set in an Irish town where the church’s tight hold has loosened and new freedoms are trying to take root, this sharply contemporary story is witty, gripping, and tinged with mysticism.

My Review:

What if you found a deck of Tarot cards?

Meave is always getting herself into trouble. She is willing to do anything to become popular. Even gets in trouble at school. While cleaning out the chokey, she finds a deck of cards. Meave become a pro at reading them and started a business. Once she reads her ex-friend tarot, she disappeared. Now Meave on a mission to find her with unlikely help.

All Our Hidden Gifts was such a fast pace read. I really did like this book. I’m glad my barnes and nobles chose it for their monthly pick bc this was a first hearing on it. The main character can be selfish at times, but she has regrets on it. I really did like both the storyline and the cover so much. There some high school drama like always at a catholic school. Also this book deals with a bit of racist stuff for the sensitive readers. If you have yet, you should add this book to TBR. Also book two will be coming out soon.

What does the future hold for you?

I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey Mcquiston

Summary:

Chloe Green is so close to winning. After her moms moved her from SoCal to Alabama for high school, she’s spent the past four years dodging gossipy classmates and a puritanical administration at Willowgrove Christian Academy. The thing that’s kept her going: winning valedictorian. Her only rival: prom queen Shara Wheeler, the principal’s perfect progeny.

But a month before graduation, Shara kisses Chloe and vanishes.

On a furious hunt for answers, Chloe discovers she’s not the only one Shara kissed. There’s also Smith, Shara’s longtime quarterback sweetheart, and Rory, Shara’s bad boy neighbor with a crush. The three have nothing in common except Shara and the annoyingly cryptic notes she left behind, but together they must untangle Shara’s trail of clues and find her. It’ll be worth it, if Chloe can drag Shara back before graduation to beat her fair-and-square.

Thrown into an unlikely alliance, chasing a ghost through parties, break-ins, puzzles, and secrets revealed on monogrammed stationery, Chloe starts to suspect there might be more to this small town than she thought. And maybe—probably not, but maybe—more to Shara, too.

My Review:

What if your rival suddenly kiss you and next day just disappears?

I Kissed Shara Wheeler deals with life inside a Christian school. People must hide who they are or they get in trouble. Chloe and Shara are rivals since forever. Always trying to up each other. Then one day Shara gets the upper hand by kissing Chloe and then disappeared. What game is Shara Wheeler is playing?

Chloe teams up with two unlikely people who Shara kissed last before she disappeared. Smith is Shara supposed boyfriend and there Rory the guy best friend. With some notes Shara left behind its up to these three to find Shara. I love the interactions between these guys. It was so fun them getting into trouble.

This book I found myself really enjoying. I laugh a couple a times. Not a huge a romance person, but when someone disappeared, I’m in. The mystery part of this story is what drew me to this book. You be laughing at this feel good read. Still shock on how much I really liked it. Could read it lots of times.

Are you ready to kiss Shara Wheeler?

The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson

Summary:

Last summer, Alice Ogilve’s basketball-star boyfriend Steve dumped her. Then she disappeared for five days. Where she went and what happened to her is the biggest mystery in Castle Cove, because she’s not talking. Or it was, at least. But now, another one of Steve’s girlfriends has vanished: Brooke Donovan, Alice’s ex–best friend. And it doesn’t look like Brooke will be coming back. . .

Enter Iris Adams, Alice’s tutor. Iris has her own reasons for wanting to disappear, though unlike Alice, she doesn’t have the money or the means. That could be changed by the hefty reward Brooke’s grandmother is offering to anyone who can share information about her granddaughter’s whereabouts. The police are convinced Steve is the culprit, but Alice isn’t so sure, and with Iris on her side, she just might be able to prove her theory.

In order to get the reward and prove Steve’s innocence, they need to figure out who killed Brooke Donovan. And luckily Alice has exactly what they need—the complete works of Agatha Christie. If there’s anyone that can teach the girls how to solve a mystery it’s the master herself. But the town of Castle Cove holds many secrets, and Alice and Iris have no idea how much danger they’re about to walk into.

My Review:

What would you do if your ex best friend found up dead?

Alice on year disappeared for five day after her best friend stole her guy. Now after she return she is a social outcast, and her friend disappeared. The police are doing nothing to help since they think it’s another Alice case and she will turn up soon. When she is found deaf it’s up to Alice and unlikely tutor to team and solve the case

The Agathas was such a fun read. I never read any Christie Agatha book before, so lots of quotes and references which was pretty cool. I really did love this book and the barnes and nobles edition for it. I just love pink cover and books. It seems every mystery book the cops can be useless and it’s up to the kids to solve it. Also I did enjoyed Liz Lawson and Kathleen Glasgow other books before this one. I was over the moon when they decided to make a book together. It is also barnes and nobles YA book club. Go check it out!

One of Us is Lying meets Hitchcock in this novel from
celebrated author of the #MurderTrending series, Gretchen McNeil.

I did my part, BFF. Now it’s your turn.

Seventeen-year-old film noir fan Neve Lanier is a girl who
just wants to be seen, but doesn’t really fit in anywhere. When Neve is
betrayed by her best friend, Yasmin, at the end of the school year, she heads
off to a girl’s empowerment camp feeling like no one will ever love her again.
So when she grabs the attention of the beautiful, charismatic Diane, she falls
right under her spell, and may accidentally promise to murder Diane’s predatory
step-brother, Javier, in exchange for Diane murdering Yasmin. But that was just
a joke…right?

Wrong. When Yasmin turns up dead, Diane comes calling,
attempting to blackmail Neve into murdering Javier. Stalling for time, Neve
pretends to go along with Diane’s plan until she can find a way out that
doesn’t involve homicide. But as she gets to know Javier – and falls for him –
she realizes that everything Diane told her is a lie. Even worse, she discovers
that Yasmin probably wasn’t Diane’s first victim. And unless Neve can stop her,
she won’t be the last.

In this twisted game of cat and mouse, the reader never quite
knows who’s telling the truth, who’s playing games, and who is going to end up
dead.

My Review:

How far will you go to make new friends?

Nerve life has turn upside, thanks to her ex best friend. Her grandmother makes her go to camp. There she tries to stay invisible and is afraid getting hurt. Then Diana charms her and they become close. She offers to kill her exfriend in return she has to kill Diana’s brother. Nerve think this is a joke at first, until Yasmin is found dead. Nerve now must do her end of the bargain or else.

Dig Two Graves was a fun thrill ride. I really did enjoy the characters and the storyline. It was full of crazy twists and turns also. It really leaves you on the edge of your seats at times. Poor Nerve been through enough and now she is force to kill. People can so cruel, as you can see from high school drama in book. This cover is another like of the main characters. The characters look so tense on it.

Ready to Dig Two Graves?

Happy Reading!!!!!!

My Wife is Missing by D.j Palmer

Summary:

A family vacation turns into a nightmare for Michael Hart when he discovers his wife and two children have disappeared from their New York City hotel room. Horrified, he fears they’ve been kidnapped. Michael’s frantic search to find them takes a shocking turn when he discovers that his wife, Natalie, appears to have left quite willingly, taking their children with her. The police want to know why, and so does Michael. But there may be a reason why Natalie ran, something Michael can’t tell the police — the truth about his past. While untangling his deceptions might be the key to locating Natalie, Michael knows it could also be his undoing. To find his wife, he must now turn to the one person capable of exposing all that he’s been hiding. Natalie thinks she has Michael all figured out and has hatched a plan to escape from him permanently. One detail, though, threatens to derail her efforts: sleep — or more accurately, the lack of it. Since the moment the shocking revelations about her husband came to light, Natalie’s insomnia has worsened to the point that she now suffers from delusions. Are her fears about Michael valid — or a symptom of her condition? With her children’s lives at risk, the stakes for Natalie could not be higher. On her own, running low on energy and resources, avoiding increasingly close calls with Michael — who is on the hunt and closing in fast — Natalie needs someone to turn to for help. But who can she trust when she can’t even trust herself.

My Review:

What can happen on a nice family vacation?

Michael went to get food for his family and comes back to them gone. Now people suspect Michael done something to them or was it his wife. It a rush against time to find them and the truth out. What dark secrets this family is hiding for the wife to disappear with the kids?

My Wife is Missing was a quick adult thriller. I always enjoyed the craziness of this aurthor books. Plus he has such fun twists at the end. This book was a guessing game on what is going on and who to believe. The reason I most like DJ Palmer reads is because they remind of all those life movie thrillers I watch. This was a short read and also fast pace. I’m looking forward to more books this aurthor.

Check out My Wife is Missing which came out today.

The Marvellers by Dhonielle Clayton

Summary:

Eleven-year-old Ella Durand is the first Conjuror to attend the Arcanum Training Institute, where Marvellers from all around the world come together to practice their cultural arts like brewing Indian spice elixirs, practicing Caribbean steel drum hypnosis, and bartering with fussy Irish faeries. Ella knows some people mistrust her Conjuror magic, often deemed “bad and unnatural,” but she’s eager to make a good impression—and, hopefully, some friends.

But Ella discovers that being the first isn’t easy, and not all of the Marvellers are welcoming. Still, she connects with fellow misfits Brigit, a girl who hates magic, and Jason, who is never found without a magical creature or two. Just as Ella begins to find her way at the A.T.I., a notorious criminal escapes from prison, supposedly with Conjurors’ help. Worse, her favorite teacher Masterji Thakur never returns from a research trip, and only Ella seems concerned about his disappearance.

As tensions grow in the Marvellian world, Ella finds herself the target of vicious rumors and growing suspicions. With the help of her new friends, Ella must find a way to clear her family’s name and track down her beloved mentor Masterji Thakur . . . before she loses her place at the A.T.I. forever.

My Review:

Ready to enter the magical world of The Marvellers.

This book is prefect for any age. I really did love the characters and world building to it. Kinda did remind me of an update version of Harry Potter. Lots of magical creatures and yummy food inside. The cover for the book is so cool. I enjoy how the three main characters interact with other as friends. This book was well written and I really do love this world.

Ella in the book is a rule follower and the first conjuror to join the school in year. Mostly she is smart and keeping head low. Somehow trouble always had a way of finding her. She befriend unlikely allies and unlock hidden secrets about the school.

This cute read was so much fun and I’m so looking forward to book two.

And unless Neve can stop her, she won’t be the last.

Queen Katharine has waited her entire life to wear the crown. But now that she finally has it, the murmurs of dissent grow louder by the day. There’s also the alarming issue of whether or not her sisters are actually dead—or if they’re waiting in the wings to usurp the throne.

Mirabella and Arsinoe are alive, but in hiding on the mainland and dealing with a nightmare of their own: being visited repeatedly by a specter they think might be the fabled Blue Queen. Though she says nothing, her rotting, bony finger pointing out to sea is clear enough: return to Fennbirn.

Jules, too, is in a strange place—in disguise. And her only confidants, a war-gifted girl named Emilia and her oracle friend Mathilde, are urging her to take on a role she can’t imagine filling: a legion-cursed queen who will lead a rebel army to Katharine’s doorstep.

This is an uprising that the mysterious Blue Queen may have more to do with than anyone could have guessed—or expected.
