Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak

Summary:

Fresh out of rehab, Mallory Quinn takes a job in the affluent suburb of Spring Brook, New Jersey as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy.

Mallory immediately loves this new job. She lives in the Maxwell’s pool house, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. His drawings are the usual fare: trees, rabbits, balloons. But one day, he draws something different: a man in a forest, dragging a woman’s lifeless body.

As the days pass, Teddy’s artwork becomes more and more sinister, and his stick figures steadily evolve into more detailed, complex, and lifelike sketches well beyond the ability of any five-year-old. Mallory begins to suspect these are glimpses of an unsolved murder from long ago, perhaps relayed by a supernatural force lingering in the forest behind the Maxwell’s house.

With help from a handsome landscaper and an eccentric neighbor, Mallory sets out to decipher the images and save Teddy—while coming to terms with a tragedy in her own past—before it’s too late.

My Review:

Ready to be freaked out?

Hidden Pictures was such a fun read. Not sure if, I would want to watch a kid that drawing creepy pictures. The book was very tense at times. Your not really sure is the main character just gone crazy. I love this cover so much. It the prefect Halloween read. Well to me Halloween can be all year round.

The main character Mallory I liked in the book. She was a mess in the beginning. Now she trying to get her life in order with help from support. Mallory landed a cool nanny job. How hard will it be watching an kid? Weird things start happening like Teddy drawings, him talking to himself at times. It feels like someone always watching her. Did Mallory fall off the wagon again or something haunting going on?

Ready to sleep with the lights on, then check out Hidden Pictures.

What I’m Reading Monday

Summary:

Orphaned as a baby, nineteen-year-old Signa has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her well-being—and each has met an untimely end. Her remaining relatives are the elusive Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at Thorn Grove, an estate both glittering and gloomy. Its patriarch mourns his late wife through wild parties, while his son grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation and his daughter suffers from a mysterious illness. But when their mother’s restless spirit appears claiming she was poisoned, Signa realizes that the family she depends on could be in grave danger and enlists the help of a surly stable boy to hunt down the killer.

However, Signa’s best chance of uncovering the murderer is an alliance with Death himself, a fascinating, dangerous shadow who has never been far from her side. Though he’s made her life a living hell, Death shows Signa that their growing connection may be more powerful—and more irresistible—than she ever dared imagine.

{Arc Review} The Undead Truth of Us by Britney S. Lewis

Summary:

Death was everywhere. They all stared at me, bumping into one another and slowly coming forward.

Sixteen-year-old Zharie Young is absolutely certain her mother morphed into a zombie before her untimely death, but she can’t seem to figure out why. Why her mother died, why her aunt doesn’t want her around, why all her dreams seem suddenly, hopelessly out of reach. And why, ever since that day, she’s been seeing zombies everywhere.

Then Bo moves into her apartment building―tall, skateboard in hand, freckles like stars, and an undeniable charm. Z wants nothing to do with him, but when he transforms into a half zombie right before her eyes, something feels different. He contradicts everything she thought she knew about monsters, and she can’t help but wonder if getting to know him might unlock the answers to her mother’s death.

As Zharie sifts through what’s real and what’s magic, she discovers a new truth about the world: Love can literally change you―for good or for dead.

My Review:

The Undead Truth of Us was an alright book. It deals with grief in a different way. Some weirdness on the main character, seeing zombies. To find the answers she befriends one. This book is not what I expected it to be. Hope other readers get to check this book. They may enjoy it better then I did. The cover to the book is pretty. The story was unexpected and not what it seems. The Undead Truth of Us comes out August 9th of you want to check it out. Also you can check it out from library, if your unsure with my review.

This Vicious Grace by Emily Thiede

Summary:

Three weddings. Three funerals. Alessa’s gift from the gods is supposed to magnify a partner’s magic, not kill every suitor she touches.

Now, with only weeks left until a hungry swarm of demons devours everything on her island home, Alessa is running out of time to find a partner and stop the invasion. When a powerful priest convinces the faithful that killing Alessa is the island’s only hope, her own soldiers try to assassinate her.

Desperate to survive, Alessa hires Dante, a cynical outcast marked as a killer, to become her personal bodyguard. But as rebellion explodes outside the gates, Dante’s dark secrets may be the biggest betrayal. He holds the key to her survival and her heart, but is he the one person who can help her master her gift or destroy her once and for all?

My Review:

What if you have the power to save the world, but your gift end up killing people?

Alessa has spent her whole left locked away. She has a gift that can enhance a person magic, but with a price. Now she is cursed and people want her dead. Alessa can’t even trust the people to guard her. Now she seeks outside help to protect. Is he the answer to save the world? Sometimes you might have to break the rules to save everyone.

This Vicious Grace was such a magical read. It one of those book where the names are hard to say, but you still understand what going on. I do have a bit of a crush on Dante in the book. Love the cover to both the US one and fairy loot. The story was very tense at times. It was such a good high fantasy series and strong start. I’m looking forward on what will happen next. There characters to fall in love with and to hate. Plus some family drama going on. The world building was so good.

Here is the fairyloot cover:

Ready for a new fantasy adventure, then read This Vicious Grace!

{Arc Review} It Looks Like Us by Alison Ames

Summary:

The remote terror of THE THING meets the body horror of WILDER GIRLS in this fast-paced Antarctic thriller.

Shy high school junior Riley Kowalski is spending her winter break on a research trip to Antarctica, sponsored by one of the world’s biggest tech companies. She joins five student volunteers, a company-approved chaperone, and an impartial scientist to prove that environmental plastic pollution has reached all the way to Antarctica, but what they find is something much worse… something that looks human.

Riley has anxiety–ostracized by the kids at school because of panic attacks–so when she starts to feel like something’s wrong with their expedition leader, Greta, she writes it off. But when Greta snaps and tries to kill Riley, she can’t chalk it up to an overactive imagination anymore. Worse, after watching Greta disintegrate, only to find another student with the same affliction, she realizes they haven’t been infected, they’ve been infiltrated–by something that can change its shape. And if the group isn’t careful, that something could quickly replace any of them.

My Review:

Are you ready for a book that leaves you on the edge of your seat?

I love the characters and the story. A must add to tbr when it comes out September 13 this year. This will be a small review for now. When closer to release date will do a better one.

Ready to be scare, add It Looks Like Us!

The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager

Summary:

Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of liquor, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple who live in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing—a tech innovator, Tom is rich; and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous.

One day on the lake, Casey saves Katherine from drowning, and the two strike up a budding friendship. But the more they get to know each other—and the longer Casey watches—it becomes clear that Katherine and Tom’s marriage is not as perfect and placid as it appears. When Katherine suddenly vanishes, Casey becomes consumed with finding out what happened to her. In the process, she uncovers eerie, darker truths that turn a tale of voyeurism and suspicion into a story of guilt, obsession and how looks can be very deceiving.

My Review

Ready to enjoy some time at the lake?

Casey is a mess after her husband passed away at the lakehouse. Now her mother forces to lay tow from the media. It time for Casey to face her past at the lakehouse. If she can get her mouth out of a bottle of alcohol. She starts spying on the new neighbors, while drunk. Then someone disappeared. Casey might knows what happen, but can she trust what she see while drinking?

I do enjoyed Riley Sager books a lot. This was really good. I love the twists anf shocks at the end. It starts off pretty slow like more mystery reads, but picks up. Casey was such a hot mess in the book. You could not tell if she was going crazy. Also I like the cover of this book. It a creep vibe to it. It a good mystery/thriller for me and will always read Riley Sager books. Looking for a good adult thriller, check out The House Across the Lake.
