Over My Dead Body by Sweeney Bo

Summary:

In the days leading up to Samhain, the veil between the world of the dead and the living is at its thinnest.

One day, everything was exactly as it was supposed to be. And the next, the closest thing Abby ever had to a sister, Noreen, was just… gone.

Distracted by the annual preparations for the Samhain festival, Abby’s classmates are quick to put Noreen’s disappearance aside. The Coven will find her, Abby’s friends say. They have it under control.

But Abby can’t let it go. Soon a search for answers leads her down a rabbit hole that uncovers more secrets than Abby can handle. As mounting evidence steers her toward the off-limits woods that surround the academy, she begins to see that Noreen’s disappearance mysteriously has a lot in common with another girl who went missing all those years ago…

My Review:

Ready for a witchy good time.

When Abby best friend, family goes missing. She must do everything she can to find them. It seems the coven is not helping at all. There are no answers to what is happening, so it is up to her. Soon, she becomes obsessed, finding crazy secrets. Soon, people think she is just losing her mind. Has Abby really gone crazy?

Over My Dead Body was such a cool graphic novel. It was a short read, which I like. This book was well, written and I enjoyed it. The cover is awesome looking, and the storyline was so good. This book is perfect for others looking for a good graphic novel to jump in. The artist who made this book did a good job, making it feel realistic.

Happy Reading!!!

What I’m Reading Monday

Helen Vaughan doesn’t know why she and her mother left their ancestral home at Harrowstone Hall, called Harrow, or why they haven’t spoken to their extended family since. So when her grandfather dies, she’s shocked to learn that he has left everything—the house, the grounds, and the money—to her. The inheritance comes with one condition: she must stay on the grounds of Harrow for one full year, or she’ll be left with nothing.

There is more at stake than money. For as long as she can remember, Harrow has haunted Helen’s dreams—and now those dreams have become a waking nightmare. Helen knows that if she is going to survive the year, she needs to uncover the secrets of Harrow. Why is the house built like a labyrinth? What is digging the holes that appear in the woods each night? And why does the house itself seem to be making her sick?

With each twisted revelation, Helen questions what she knows about Harrow, her family, and even herself. She no longer wonders if she wants to leave…but if she can.

Dark Room Etiquette by Robin Roe

Summary:

Sixteen-year-old Sayers Wayte has everything—until he’s kidnapped by a man who tells him the privileged life he’s been living is based on a lie.

Trapped in a windowless room, without knowing why he’s been taken or how long the man plans to keep him shut away, Sayers faces a terrifying new reality. To survive, he must forget the world he once knew, and play the part his abductor has created for him.

But as time passes, the line between fact and fiction starts to blur, and Sayers begins to wonder if he can escape . . . before he loses himself.

My Review:

What if you had it all but then lost it?

Sayers is a smart kid and gets what he wants. He watches his friend bully others. He thinks if he sees it, then he can’t get in trouble. His name alone just gets him everything he wants. With no care in the world until he gets kidnapped. Then, his world turns upside down. Maybe he can change for the good.

There are so many crazy emotions in this book and very tense read. The aurthor did a good job of me hating Sayers in the beginning. He seems he wants to do the right thing, but just watch his friends be jerks. He even treats his real friends badly. Maybe that why he got kidnapped in the first place. Karma can be a bitch. It was hard reading when Sayer got kidnapped part. It was very detailed and well written or how he was tortured during that time. That part was very tense and started feeling bad for him. I really liked this book and could not put it down. Had to see how it all ends for Sayers. You can become very engrossed in the story. So check it out Dark Room Etiquette.

{Arc Review} A Ruinous Fate by Kylie Smith

Summary:

Fate does not choose the weak. Fate chooses the ready.

Calliope Rosewood is a witch with a long streak of bad luck. Like all witches in Illustros, her fate is directly tied to Witch’s Dice—powerful artifacts that have blessed her kind with limitless magic but also set them on a path toward destruction. Cursed with unspeakable powers that terrify even the most dangerous witches and fae, Calla deserted her coven four years ago and has been in hiding with her two best friends since. But Calla is also hiding a grave secret: She is only three Rolls away from becoming the last Blood Warrior and starting the Final War that will decimate her people and eradicate their magic.

After a betrayal from her ex leads her one step closer to fulfilling that age-old prophecy, Calla is desperate to do whatever it takes to reset her fate . . . even if that means journeying into the deadly Neverending Forest with said ex and his enticing, yet enigmatic older brother to find the one being who can help her forge her own path. As Calla ventures farther into the enchanted woods, she finds her heart torn between her past desires and the alluring new possibilities of her future and learns that choosing your own destiny may come with deadly consequences.

My Review:

A Ruinous Fate was such a magical read. I really love the world building and the magic system. There are lots of characters to love or hate. Mostly, everyone in the book is stubborn. Plus, there are some fun killer creatures after them. This new fantasy book comes out on January 3rd, so add it to your tbr.

Calla and her two best friends are on the run from her coven. She is very unlucky with her fate and love life. After she almost got auctioned off, she ran into her ex. Now, she forms and unlikely allies with him and his crew to change her fate.

This book was very fun, beginning until the end. Everyone has such trust issues and is just always fighting. Which was funny at times. The magic system with dice was totally different than any other fantasy read. The romance is kinda love and hate going on. Which i don’t mind since I just love the storyline.

A Ruinous Fate is perfect for fantasy lovers out there, Check it out next year.

The Art of Insanity by Christine Webb

Summary:

High schooler Natalie Cordova has just been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. Her mom insists she keep it secret.

Putting up a front and hiding her mental illness from her classmates is going to be the hardest thing Natalie’s ever done. It’s her senior year, and she’s just been selected to present her artwork at a prestigious show. With the stress of performing on her shoulders, it doesn’t help when Natalie notices a boy who makes her heart leap. And then there’s fellow student Ella, who confronts Natalie about her summer car “accident” and pressures her into caring for the world’s ugliest dog. Now Natalie finds herself juggling all kinds of feels and responsibilities. Surely her newly prescribed medication is to blame for the funk she finds herself in. But as Natalie’s plan to self-treat unravels, so does the perfect façade she’s been painting for everyone else.

My Review:

What happens when you must hide who you really are?

Natalie spent her high school life being perfect and having good friends. Then, one day, she gets in an accident, suddenly diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Afraid of what her friends and classmates will say, she keeps it a secret. Even her mom wants her pretend everything is alright and not tell a soul. Natalie starts thinking maybe she may not be crazy and starts taking things into her own hands.

The Art of Insanity as you tell with the summary, deals with mental health. I thought this was well written. I was very engrossed with the book and can relate with the main character on what she is going through. It said Natalie’s mother did not know how to handle things and pretended it did not exist. Which was very hard to read at times. There are some trigger warnings with this book. The cover fits the book perfectly. This book is a good read for those dealing with mental illness. So make sure to check it out.

Five Survive by Holly Jackson

Summary:

The brand new unmissable crime thriller from Holly Jackson, best-selling, award-winning author of the Good Girl’s Guide to Murder trilogy.

Eight hours.
Six friends.
One sniper . . .

Eighteen year old Red and her friends are on a road trip in an RV, heading to the beach for Spring Break. It’s a long drive but spirits are high. Until the RV breaks down in the middle of nowhere. There’s no mobile phone reception and nobody around to help. And as the wheels are shot out, one by one, the friends realise that this is no accident. There’s a sniper out there in the dark watching them and he knows exactly who they are. One of the group has a secret that the sniper is willing to kill for.

A game of cat-and-mouse plays out as the group desperately tries to get help and to work out which member of the group is the target. Buried secrets are forced to light in the cramped, claustrophobic setting of the RV, and tensions within the group will reach deadly levels. Not everyone will survive the night.

My Review:

Are ready to go on a nice R.V trip?

When Red and her friends plan a R.V trip of fun. What could go wrong? First, they get turned around, and then someone shoots out their tires. There a sniper after them, only one person know why. Everyone is hiding a secret in the R.V, only one the sniper wants before sunrise. Who can Red Trust?

Five Survive was so much fun. I was so hooked when I read the first few pages. I did love the storyline and most of the characters. You can’t trust your friends when there is a sniper outside waiting for you. You notice some horror movies theme in the book also. The cover I love so much since it is a broken window with blood, it looks like. Don’t think I could handle a long R.V. with people. They will drive me nuts. I have seen way too many horror movies about road trips.

Five Survive recently came out, so read it. Also, Holly Jackson other books series Good Guide to Murder is a must-read.

Happy Reading!!!
