Book Con Madness

Sorry been kinda slow with blogging since last week. Been so busy getting ready for book con. I know I could set up posts and all but been so busy. I got some awesome reviews coming up and a blog tour of a new fantasy series.

Did not take much pictures this weekend. Was so busy wondering around for books. So here is my book con haul for both days.

Thanks to my friends who went to bea and got me books. Also thanks to a girl and her mother at book con for Broken Things arc exchange. Also another person in the group for four dead queens arc. I’m not very good with names. Some doubles you may see, so watch out for some giveaways later on.

Hope you had a blast at book con.

Happy Reading!

Tips to Survive Book Con

Hello Readers,

For those new to book con. This guide will help you along the way. Very nice picture I found on Google. This will be my third year going to book con. For those new to it. It’s a book convention in NYC. No worries tickets don’t sell out. You can get them anytime and even at the door. Hope this guide will help you out.

  1. Bags:

You allow to have bags in the convention center. Allow only bookbags, totes, fanny packs, purses.

Can have small wheel bags but must be check in luggage area. Price is 3 bucks a day

2. Food:

Can bring in snacks and water in bag. You will be waiting in long lines so have food in bag will help. Drink lots of water.

Convention center has a food court and starbucks. Be warn it will be so packed and pricey there.

You can also leave the convention anytime to get food and come back as long as you have badge on you.

3. ARCS (Advance Reader Copies) and Giveaways:

When you first come into book con, you get a book with a map and a tote bag.

Read the booklet good on most of giveaways and booths numbers. There be books giving out different times of day that are not announced in booklet.

4. Money:

Bring cash for emergency and a card also. Not every booth will take cards.

5. Autographs:

If you do autograph lines, please read carefully before getting tickets to it.

Some autographs require you to buy the book to see the author. Plus there could be limits on how many books you get sign.

6. Clothes:

Wear something comfortable. Sneakers are a girl’s best friend. You be standing around and waiting in long lines all day.

If you wish to dress up as your favorite character, you can do that also

I think I cover everything just about. Their other people who been to book con before. If you need help with anything just feel free to ask the people who work there. There signs everywhere and maps. Please be respectful to others, no pushing and shoving to get a book. If you don’t get an book, it be fine. The book will be release soon. You there to make new book friends, discover new books and have fun. Be nice to one and other and help each other out.

The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith

Book Summary:

In the tradition of Speak, this extraordinary debut novel shares the unforgettable story of a young woman as she struggles to find strength in the aftermath of an assault.

Eden was always good at being good. Starting high school didn’t change who she was. But the night her brother’s best friend rapes her, Eden’s world capsizes.

What was once simple, is now complex. What Eden once loved—who she once loved—she now hates. What she thought she knew to be true, is now lies. Nothing makes sense anymore, and she knows she’s supposed to tell someone what happened but she can’t. So she buries it instead. And she buries the way she used to be.

Told in four parts—freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year—this provocative debut reveals the deep cuts of trauma. But it also demonstrates one young woman’s strength as she navigates the disappointment and unbearable pains of adolescence, of first love and first heartbreak, of friendships broken and rebuilt, and while learning to embrace a power of survival she never knew she had hidden within her heart.

My Review:

This story is an emotional journey for Eden. I read this book in like one night and was crying at the end. The story was detailed for more older teens. Feelings the pain Eden went through when she was rape at an young age. Over three years you get to see how she cope and bottle it up like it never happen. Loosing friends and herself in the process. This book is an graphic and have sensitive issues that talk about in it. I think it more older teens read then anything. Can Eden be saved at the end before it’s to late?

{Arc Review} Batman: Nightwalker (DC Icons #2) by Marie Lu

Book Summary:

Before he was Batman, he was Bruce Wayne. A reckless boy willing to break the rules for a girl who may be his worst enemy.

The Nightwalkers are terrorizing Gotham City, and Bruce Wayne is next on their list.

One by one, the city’s elites are being executed as their mansions’ security systems turn against them, trapping them like prey. Meanwhile, Bruce is turning eighteen and about to inherit his family’s fortune, not to mention the keys to Wayne Enterprises and all the tech gadgetry his heart could ever desire. But after a run-in with the police, he’s forced to do community service at Arkham Asylum, the infamous prison that holds the city’s most brutal criminals.

Madeleine Wallace is a brilliant killer . . . and Bruce’s only hope.

In Arkham, Bruce meets Madeleine, a brilliant girl with ties to the Nightwalkers. What is she hiding? And why will she speak only to Bruce? Madeleine is the mystery Bruce must unravel. But is he getting her to divulge her secrets, or is he feeding her the information she needs to bring Gotham City to its knees? Bruce will walk the dark line between trust and betrayal as the Nightwalkers circle closer.

My Review:

When I first heard about this book, I was like I must read it. Was lucky enough to an arc of it. I am such an big Batman fan so was happy Marie Lu wrote this book.It was when  Bruce before he became the batman. I really enjoy the story line to this book. Get to see Bruce growing up as an man a bit and problems he has during high school. Was so sad how short the book Batman was. This book has action, lots of fighting and some deaths in it, hardly that much romance going on. If you looking for to see how the Bruce turn out at the age of 18 then you will like this book. It’s coming out Jan. 2, so it will be out soon. Happy Reading!

My New Crush Gave to Me by Shani Petroff

Book Summary:

Charlotte Charlie Donovan knows exactly what she wants for Christmas: Teo Ortiz. He s the school s star athlete, in the National Honor Society, invited to every party, contributes to the school paper (where Charlie is co-editor), and is about to be featured as One to Watch in a teen magazine basically, he’s exactly the type of guy Charlie s meant to be with. The only problem he barely knows she exists.

But Charlie is determined to be Teo’s date to the Christmas ball. And she has a plan: To rig the paper s Secret Santa so that she can win his heart with five perfect gifts. But to do that she needs help. Enter J.D. Ortiz Teo s cousin, and possibly the most annoying person on the planet. He s easy going, laid back, unorganized, spontaneous, and makes a joke out of everything the exact opposite of Charlie (and Teo). But he s willing to provide insight into what Teo wants, so shes stuck with him.

Yet, the more time Charlie spends with J.D., the more she starts to wonder: Does she really know what, or rather who, she wants for Christmas?

My Review:

In this new fluffy holiday read, Charlie is an upbeat girl and everything has to be perfect for her even her date to the school dance. This book reads like an 80s teen movie in a very good way. This positive book can cure any holiday blues out there. Charlie may seem annoying at first with her rules and with being perfect but at times I even laughed when she messes up which made her relatable. Charlie is not as perfect as she seems and with help with another classmate JD, will she be able to loosen up in time for the Christmas to start? This book has some fun, teen romance and we were all rooting for the underdog. In the end, can Charlie get the perfect Christmas she wants?

Happy Reading and Holiday!

Fragments of the Lost by Megan Miranda

Book Summary:

Jessa Whitworth knew she didn’t belong in her ex-boyfriend Caleb’s room. But she couldn’t deny that she was everywhere–in his photos, his neatly folded T-shirts, even the butterfly necklace in his jeans pocket . . . the one she gave him for safe keeping on that day.

His mother asked her to pack up his things–even though she blames Jessa for his accident. How could she say no? And maybe, just maybe, it will help her work through the guilt she feels about their final moments together.

But as Jessa begins to box up the pieces of Caleb’s life, they trigger memories that make Jessa realize their past relationship may not be exactly as she remembered. And she starts to question whether she really knew Caleb at all.

Each fragment of his life reveals a new clue that propels Jessa to search for the truth about Caleb’s accident. What really happened on the storm-swept bridge?

My Review:

The storyline of this book and the magnificent cover is what drew me in. I did enjoy the story a little bit but it mostly felt kind of slow in the beginning of the book for me. Then it picks up pretty good towards the middle. Felt bad for Jessa when they made her clean out her dead ex-boyfriend’s room. She suffers from a lot of blame for what happened to him and you can see the struggles she’s dealing with it every time she tries to empty his room out. This book deals with loss and family secrets that get exposed. In the end, can Jessa overcome the loss of her ex-boyfriend and discover how he died before it’s too late?
