{Birthday Giveaway} The Continent by Keira Drake

Book Summary:
For her sixteenth birthday, Vaela Sun receives the most coveted gift in all the Spire—a trip to the Continent. It seems an unlikely destination for a holiday: a cold, desolate land where two nations remain perpetually locked in combat. Most citizens lucky enough to tour the Continent do so to observe the spectacle and violence of battle, a thing long vanished in the peaceful realm of the Spire. For Vaela, the war holds little interest. As a smart and talented apprentice cartographer and a descendent of the Continent herself, she sees the journey as a dream come true: a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve upon the maps she’s drawn of this vast, frozen land.
But Vaela’s dream all too quickly turns to nightmare as the journey brings her face-to-face with the brutal reality of a war she’s only read about. Observing from the safety of a heli-plane, Vaela is forever changed by the sight of the bloody battle being waged far beneath her. And when a tragic accident leaves her stranded on the Continent, Vaela finds herself much closer to danger than she’d ever imagined—and with an entirely new perspective as to what war truly means. Starving, alone, and lost in the middle of a war zone, Vaela must try to find a way home—but first, she must survive.

My Review:

The Continent is a trip of a lifetime. A beautiful place to explore and see from afar.

This book was such an fantastic read. I thought this was such an original story. Something I never read before. I’m glad I gave this book a chance. It was hard reading the struggles the main character had to go through, but I did like her in the book. It very detailed world that drew me.

Vaela has such an creative nature in the book. Wanted to see the world around her. For her birthday she gets a trip of a lifetime. When and accident happens, leaving her alone in the wild of The Continent. Facing so many dangers and trying to stay alive alone. Will Vaela find a way home again?

Thought this book was a fast pace read. I enjoy watching Vaela grow and learn new things. This book is good for those who looking for something new and adventurous.

I’m giving away a new paperback copy of the book for my birthday.

My Review:

I thought the book was such a magical read with dragons and unicorns. I did love the idea of magical creatures living with the humans and I also enjoyed the main characters storyline.

{Arc Review & Giveaway} The Storm Runner by J.C Cervantes

Book Summary:
Zane has always enjoyed exploring the dormant volcano near his home in New Mexico, even though hiking it is challenging. He’d much rather hang out there with his dog, Rosie, than go to middle school, where kids call him Sir Limps a Lot, McGimpster, or Uno—for his one good leg. What Zane doesn’t know is that the volcano is a gateway to another world and he is at the center of a powerful prophecy. A new girl at school, Brooks, informs him that he’s destined to release an evil god from the ancient Maya relic he is imprisoned in—unless she can find and remove it first. Together they return to the volcano, where all kinds of crazy happens. Brooks turns into a hawk, a demon attacks them in a cave, and Rosie gives her all while trying to protect Zane. When Zane decides to save his dog no matter the cost, he is thrust into an adventure full of surprising discoveries, dangerous secrets, and an all-out war between the gods, one of whom happens to be his father. To survive, Zane will have to become the Storm Runner. But how can he run when he can’t even walk well without a cane?
Feisty heroes, tricky gods, murderous demons, and spirited giants are just some of the pleasures that await in this fresh and funny take on Maya mythology, as rich and delicious as a mug of authentic hot chocolate.

My Review:

This book was so much fun. Really did enjoyed every minute of it. Also did learned about some Mayan mythology. This middle grade book is for all ages.

I adore Zane in the book. He was like the underdog throughout the story. He got this limp and no powers. Yet everyone thinks he can break this god out prison. There are secrets to who he is. So what Zane is story and what does it have to do with gods?

I think the book is a quick read. Sadly took me a while to finish it bc I had work. If you enjoy action adventure books, while learning new mythology, this book could for you. Comes out the 18th.

Lucky for my readers I have an extra arc to giveaway on my blog. US Only.

As the stakes grow higher and higher, Frey must decide whether she can trust him – or anyone in her life.

My Review:

So excited to get back into the ugiles series world. This book has a new story and new characters to enjoy. There some references to some of the characters from the ugiles series. If you have yet read the ugiles books, you don’t have to read this review.

I do enjoy Frey and Rafi sister bond they have them for each. You get to see how Frey struggle where she belongs. She been training her life in hiding and pretend to her sister double. I like how she grows in the book and becomes her own person.

I like seeing how Rafi puts on a brave face. In the media and everyday life she must pretend to be perfect. Inside she struggles going against her father and protecting her sister. Will these sisters be able to stop their father in time?

The book is action pack and fun. A simple quick read and I enjoy every minute of it. If your a fan of Scott Westerfeld works then this book for you. The book comes Sept. 11.

{Arc Review & Giveaway}That’s Not What Happen by Koby Keplinger

Book Summary:
It’s been three years since the Virgil County High School Massacre. Three years since my best friend, Sarah, was killed in a bathroom stall during the mass shooting. Everyone knows Sarah’s story–that she died proclaiming her faith.
But it’s not true.
I know because I was with her when she died. I didn’t say anything then, and people got hurt because of it. Now Sarah’s parents are publishing a book about her, so this might be my last chance to set the record straight . . . but I’m not the only survivor with a story to tell about what did–and didn’t–happen that day.
Except Sarah’s martyrdom is important to a lot of people, people who don’t take kindly to what I’m trying to do. And the more I learn, the less certain I am about what’s right. I don’t know what will be worse: the guilt of staying silent or the consequences of speaking up . . .

My Review:

I did liked this book. The story was very sensitive to most readers. I did liked the the characters in the book. The kids that survived been through a lot since the shooting years ago.

It was nice seeing how the survivors get together to cope with what happen each year. You can see the bond they have for each other. But when Lee wants to write the truth on what really happen that day, will their bond still be strong?

This book is empowering and about moving from grief and getting the truth out there. But not everyone will be happy about it. What happen that faithful day could change some of the survivors lives.

One Lucky Reader get a sign arc of this book. It comes out the Aug 28th. Sorry it has to be US Only for the giveaway.

{Arc Review & Giveaway} Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian

Book Summary:
A summer read about first love, feminism, and ice cream.
Summer in Sand Lake isn’t complete without a trip to Meade Creamery—the local ice cream stand founded in 1944 by Molly Meade who started making ice cream to cheer up her lovesick girlfriends while all the boys were away at war. Since then, the stand has been owned and managed exclusively by local girls, who inevitably become the best of friends. Seventeen-year-old Amelia and her best friend Cate have worked at the stand every summer for the past three years, and Amelia is “Head Girl” at the stand this summer. When Molly passes away before Amelia even has her first day in charge, Amelia isn’t sure that the stand can go on. That is, until Molly’s grandnephew Grady arrives and asks Amelia to stay on to help continue the business…but Grady’s got some changes in mind.

My Review:

I can say this book is sweet. I liked the story idea of a group of friends working in an ice cream place for years together. Things change when the owner dies and the new hot manager starts and changes things up. He seems to be more trouble than what he’s worth.

I love the friendship between Cate and Amelie. Cate is like the bad girl, while Amelie is the sweet one. With this being their last summer together, will the new male manager ruin things between them?

A lot of ice cream was wasted throughout the book. The bonds and the friendships at the ice cream shop gets tested. It was a good book on best friends and trying to enjoy their last summer, before moving away to college.

Are you excited for the release of this cute summery read? Disappointed that you didn’t receive an arc? Well, you’re in luck!!! I’m giving away my personal arc copy to one lucky reader. Good Luck!!
