Freefall by Jessica Berry

Book Summary:
A propulsive debut novel with the intensity of Luckiest Girl Alive and Before the Fall, about a young woman determined to survive and a mother determined to find her.
When your life is a lie, the truth can kill you
When her fiancé’s private plane crashes in the Colorado Rockies, Allison Carpenter miraculously survives. But the fight for her life is just beginning. For years, Allison has been living with a terrible secret, a shocking truth that powerful men will kill to keep buried. If they know she’s alive, they will come for her. She must make it home.
In the small community of Owl Creek, Maine, Maggie Carpenter learns that her only child is presumed dead. But authorities have not recovered her body—giving Maggie a shred of hope. She, too, harbors a shameful secret: she hasn’t communicated with her daughter in two years, since a family tragedy drove Allison away. Maggie doesn’t know anything about her daughter’s life now—not even that she was engaged to wealthy pharmaceutical CEO Ben Gardner, or why she was on a private plane.
As Allison struggles across the treacherous mountain wilderness, Maggie embarks on a desperate search for answers. Immersing herself in Allison’s life, she discovers a sleek socialite hiding dark secrets. What was Allison running from—and can Maggie uncover the truth in time to save her?
Told from the perspectives of a mother and daughter separated by distance but united by an unbreakable bond, Freefall is a riveting debut novel about two tenacious women overcoming unimaginable obstacles to protect themselves and those they love.

My Review:

I did liked this adult mystery/thriller. The story was pretty interesting and set into two point of views. You don’t need to read this review, if your not into adult reads. I read mostly a bit of everything that sounds good. This was mostly an quick read. Like other mysteries books, it slow pace. Can connect to what the characters are going through.

Allison in the book is a survival, she is on the run after a plane crash. You can tell right off the bat someone been watching her. No one knows who she running from at first or why she running in the first place. You just want to root for her to stay alive. What hidden secrets she been keeping from her family for years?

Maggie is the hopeful mother. She the only one, that believes Allison might be alive. As she digs through her daughter past, what will she dig up? I like how accepting Maggie is, when finding secrets of her daughter’s life. She really cares for her family. Will mother and daughter be reunited at the end?

I say this again I liked this read, but not in love with it. If you looking for a new adult read or any new read, you might enjoy it. If you unsure of it, then get it from the library.

Happy Reading!!!

Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel

Book Summary:
When Maisie Winters wakes up, she’s in the hospital.
The last thing she remembers is running through the hills of her neighborhood one misty morning. Slowly, she puts the pieces together. Before she could make it home, a storm gathered. Lightning hit a power line and sparks rained down, the hot-burning electrical fire consuming her. Destroying her face. Where her nose, cheeks, and chin used to be, now there is…nothing.
Maisie’s lucky enough to qualify for a rare medical treatment: a face transplant. At least, everyone says she’s lucky. But with someone else’s features staring back at her in the mirror, Maisie looks—and feels—like a stranger. The doctors promised that the transplant was her chance to live a normal life again, but nothing feels normal anymore. Before, she knew who she was—a regular girl who ran track and got good grades, who loved her boyfriend and her best friend. Now, she can’t even recognize herself.

My Review:

What Happens when your in a horrible accident and half your face is gone?

In the book Faceless, Maisie deals with an tragic accident, while out running one day. Her face was so burn up, you could barely recognized her. Lucky to have been still alive, she gets a chance to start over with a face transplant. With having a new face will it change the who she before the accident? How your her friends and people around her will react?

This book was very good read. I thought it was well written and very detailed story. I like seeing how Maisie has grow throughout the book and dealing with what happen to her. Faceless is such an amazing read and hope more people discover this book.

Looking for a new book with self discovering and accepting who you are. Then I suggest you pick up Faceless. If you unsure on this book then pick up at local library.

My Review:

I did liked this book. It was very detailed on what happen to the main character in the book. This book for me will be a one time read.

I did liked Jess in the book. It’s a sad story on what happens to her in the book. The things she has to do to survive in the short time she was with her father was unfortunate. Will she be able to survive, to get her revenge on the people who kill her father?

This read is for people who like survival stories. It very detailed book on what Jess had to do in order to survive. You get flashbacks on how she end up alone in the woods. If you want to read it and unsure of it, then get it at the library. Looking for something new and different then you guys can try this book out.

Kali has twenty-four hours to save her, and unfortunately she’ll have to do it as a human. With the help of a few new friends, Kali takes a risk that her human body might not survive . . . and learns the secrets of her mysterious condition in the process.

My Review:

This book had so many Buffy the vampire slayer feelings. I did enjoy the story idea of the book. And also the characters within the book I like. I happen upon this old book on instagram. Glad I find it at library and read it.

Kali, our demon hunter in the book. I liked her a lot in the book. She is brave and daring. Willing to risk her life for people she hardly knows. Then at school she is just a new girl hardly anyone knows her. Once she see the head cheerleader bitten, will she be able to save her life? Both her demon world and human life will collide. Will Kali be ready to let her new friends in?

This book is filled with demon killing. There some twists and turns along the way. If you into demon hunters type of books, then you might enjoy this book. I glad I found it on social media.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Book Summary:
“What’s the point of having a voice if you’re gonna be silent in those moments you shouldn’t be?”
Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she was born and raised and her posh high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed.

My Review:

This book is so good and very empowering. Such an emotional rollercoaster ride this book. The story was good and the conection with the characters felt real.

I really liked Starr in the book. I thought she was brave in it. She tries hard keep her life separate from her school life. Once a she watches her friend passed before her eyes, both her worlds collide. Who will stick by Starr side in the end?

The book was so moving and very detailed written. I was glad I finally picked this book up before the movie comes out in Oct. 19. If you have yet read this book, I suggest you do before the movie comes out.
