Finish Reading:

I really did love The Final Girl Support Group. Recently did a book review.

Currently Reading:

I’m in the middle of this book and liking it so far. It’s more of a mystery read than thriller right now. The main character boyfriend dies, but was it an accident or something more going on? I do love the cover so much.

Reading Next:

Maybe keep a thriller theme going on or change my mind and get into more fantasy. See what I’m in mood for after my current book.

In The Ravenous Dark by A.M Strickland

Summary:

A pansexual bloodmage reluctantly teams up with an undead spirit to start a rebellion among the living and the dead.

In Thanopolis, those gifted with magic are assigned undead spirits to guard them—and control them. Ever since Rovan’s father died trying to keep her from this fate, she’s hidden her magic. But when she accidentally reveals her powers, she’s bound to a spirit and thrust into a world of palace intrigue and deception.

Desperate to escape, Rovan finds herself falling for two people she can’t fully trust: Lydea, a beguiling, rebellious princess; and Ivrilos, the handsome spirit with the ability to control Rovan, body and soul.

Together, they uncover a secret that will destroy Thanopolis. To save them all, Rovan will have to start a rebellion in both the mortal world and the underworld, and find a way to trust the princess and spirit battling for her heart—if she doesn’t betray them first.

My Review:

In the Ravenous Dark was such a detailed fantasy world. It took me such a long to finish and understand what’s happening. I did end up falling in love with the story and characters. I brought the book also for the pretty cover which I’m in love with. Fits the theme of the read.

Rovan is a fighter with secret abilities. When her friend is in trouble, she gets exposed. Rovan gets whisked away into the drama of family royals, and politics. Rovan is not going down without a fight, when the people she loves is suffering.

This book is very detailed in the world building. Lots of characters to fall in love with or hate. Lots of politics talk and some magical fantasy to balance each other out. Even there some crazy romances going on. I think this read is a stand alone. So no worries on any cliffhangers. I would mind another book with some of the side characters in it. I did very much enjoyed this book. It took a long to finish for me, but worth it in the end.

Looking for a new stand fantasy read, Check out The Ravenous Dark.

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix

Summary:

In horror movies, the final girl is the one who’s left standing when the credits roll. The one who fought back, defeated the killer, and avenged her friends. The one who emerges bloodied but victorious. But after the sirens fade and the audience moves on, what happens to her?

Lynnette Tarkington is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre twenty-two years ago, and it has defined every day of her life since. And she’s not alone. For more than a decade she’s been meeting with five other actual final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, putting their lives back together, piece by piece. That is until one of the women misses a meeting and Lynnette’s worst fears are realized–someone knows about the group and is determined to take their lives apart again, piece by piece.

But the thing about these final girls is that they have each other now, and no matter how bad the odds, how dark the night, how sharp the knife, they will never, ever give up.

My Review:

The Final Girl Support Group was such a epic read. This adult horror book was so realistic and well written. The story was entertaining from the beginning until the end. It full with crazy twists and turns. Most the girls in the book are crazy in their own way after becoming the final girl. You be guessing who the killer is throughout the book.

Lynnette, I liked in the book. After becoming  a final girl, she starts hiding out at her place. She set up escape routes, booby trap her apartment. Lynnette keep self hidden from the world and safe. Always watching her back, go to group. Then one of the final girls gets killed. It time for the girls to fight for their lives again. Who can they really trust?

This was a fast pace read. I could not put it down. So very suspenseful and exciting after each chapter. The cover is so gruesome and I love it so much! I can read this book over and over again. Will looked forward reading more by this aurthor.

Books

Fix by J. Albert Mann

Summary:

A gritty, moving story of friendship, loss, pain, and addiction.

Everything was fine before. When Eve and Lidia could hide their physical differences inside goofy Burger Hut costumes. When Lidia shook Eve up and Eve made Lidia laugh. When Lidia was there

Everything is different now. Cut open . . . rearranged . . . stapled shut, Eve is left alone to recover in a world of pain and a body she no longer recognizes. Her only companions being a bottle of Roxanol and an infuriating (but cute) neighbor, Eve strikes up a relationship—and makes a pact—with the devil. Sacrificing pieces of a place she doesn’t know to return to a place she does. What will she discover when she unravels her past? And is having Lidia back worth the price?

In verse and prose, Fix paints a riveting picture of a teen struggling to find herself and move forward with her life in a sea of opioids, regret, grief, and hope.

My Review:

Fix is a very emotional read. A simple surgery turns into a addiction for the main character. You get to see how much she becomes crazy, talking to objects and not eatting. It deals with a very sensitive topic of drugs misuse. Even the cover shows you that character is trap inside a pill.

Eve suffers with bad back issues all her life. She decides to do a risky back surgery to correct the problem. It is a painful road to recovery and her mom is so busy to take care of her. When left alone and suffering, she takes things into her own hands and starts abusing her meds. When lost in your own world, will there be anyone there to save her?

I did like the book Fix. It was confusing at times bc you lost inside Eve’s mind. You can see how much she been struggling with pain. Also get a glimpse how her mind been seeing things that are not there. Eve deals with the recovery on her own most of the times. You can tell her mom to busy to see any changes or help her daughter out. Her friend had a mini falling out and only a boy next door seem to care.

This book will have trigger warning for some readers. The ending of this book was more confusing for me so that why I gave it 3 stars. I could go back and reread it, to understand it better. Your mostly inside Eve’s mind dealing with pain and not sure what’s real or not.

Are you ready to dive into Eve’s Mind in Fix???

The In Between by Marc Klein

Summary:

A heartbreaking story of love and loss — perfect for fans of If I Stay and Five Feet Apart. Soon to be a motion picture starring Joey King.

After bouncing around in foster homes for most of her childhood, seventeen-year-old Tessa Jacobs doesn’t believe she deserves love — not from her adoptive parents, and certainly not from anyone at school.

But everything changes when she has a chance encounter at the local movie theater with Skylar, a senior from a neighboring town who’s a true romantic. Their budding relationship quickly leads to the kind of passionate love you only see in the movies. And Tessa starts to believe she might be deserving of a happy ending after all.

When tragedy strikes, Tessa wakes up alone in the hospital with no memory of how she got there. And Skylar has passed away. As Tessa begins her relentless search for answers, Skylar’s spirit reaches out to her from the other side. Desperate to see him one last time, Tessa must unravel the pieces of their relationship — and the truth might even lead her into the afterlife itself.

My Review:

The In Between was such a heartbreaking book. The story moves pretty fast and the two main characters fall in love quickly. It was a short read and will become a movie.

The books starts off right away with Tessa in the hospital and Skylar passed away. They really don’t ease you into the accident. You get to alternate before the crash and after the it.

Tessa always have doubt with her photography and falling in love. Skylar is the one to get her to open up and presume her dreams. Without him she feels so lost and hides from everyone.

I did liked this book, but not love it. Just way to much of a fast pace for me. I’m never a fan of insta love with books. Also thought it lack a bit with emotions. Since the story starts right after the accident, it did not build up any suspense on what happen. It still a nice short book. Will check out the movie to see how they did it. I also did like how haunting the cover was.

If you like fast pace storyline, insta romance, and life in between, You might enjoy The In Between. Not sure on reading this book, then check it out at library.

The Hollow Inside by Brooke Lauren Davis

Summary:

A YA debut about a girl caught in a web of betrayal and revenge.

Phoenix and mom Nina have spent years on the road, using their charm and wits to swindle and steal to get by. Now they’ve made it to their ultimate destination, Mom’s hometown of Jasper Hollow. The plan: bring down Ellis Bowman, the man who ruined Nina’s life.

After Phoenix gets caught spying, she spins a convincing story that inadvertently gives her full access to the Bowman family. As she digs deeper into their secrets, she finds herself entrenched in the tale of a death and a disappearance that doesn’t entirely line up with what Mom has told her. Who, if anyone, is telling the whole truth?

My Review:

I really did liked The Hollow Inside. It was a very good revenge plot story with some crazy twists. Also another cover I did liked since it fits the book perfectly. The main character goes through so much in this book and conflicted with what is right and wrong.

Phoenix is confused throughout the book. She gets caught up with her mom’s revenge scam. Phoenix gets taken in by the enemy and start discovering shocking secrets about her mother’s past. When she starts feeling bad for the family, she must chose to seek out her mom’s plan or find her own path in life.

This book is a very good read from beginning to the end. I felt bad Phoenix always being on the run and never had a real home. She always conflicted on what to do. The only thing that seems to matter to her is make her mother happy, despite her own happiness. I enjoy the little mystery and the shocking reveals at the end.

This book is prefect for those mystery readers with a little bit of revenge in it.

“June shines in this retelling of Rumpelstiltskin . . . with memorable characters that will appeal to a broad range of fantasy readers.” —SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

If Nor can’t spin gold, she can always spin lies.

When seventeen-year-old Nor rescues a captured faerie in the woods, he gifts her with a magical golden thread she can use to summon him for a favor. Instead, Nor uses it for a con—to convince villagers to buy straw that can be transformed into gold. Her trick works a little too well, attracting the suspicion of Prince Casper, who hates nobody more than a liar. Intent on punishing Nor, he demands that she spin a room of straw into gold and as her reward, he will marry her. Should she refuse or fail, the consequences will be dire.

My Review:

Gold Spun was such an amazing retelling of Rumpelstitskin. I really did love story line and the characters within the book. Also the cover is so pretty. I was grateful to be a part of this blog tour and to discover this book.

Nor was such a delightful in the book. She smart and very conning. Nor will do anything to put food on the table for her brothers. One day she set a faerie free, and that’s when her troubles started. Now she pretends to make gold into straw and becomes the new king radar. She gets caught up in the royal affairs and a long time feud with faeries.

I’m was so glad to discover this new fantasy read. A little bit of action packed, some romance and magic. It a hard life being a royal in this book. Hopefully Nor can mange to stay alive long enough to see her brothers again.

My favorite character in the book was Pel, aka Rumpelstiltskin. He was so good at being evil with somewhat has a soft side. I enjoy villians having a little bit of nice. Also looking forward to book two after that ending. I would love more of Pel’s backstop next time.

Thanks so much for letting me be apart of this blog tour. Hopefully you guys do book two.

14 Ways to Die by Vincent Ralph

Summary:

Ten years ago, Jess’s mother was murdered by the Magpie Man.

She was the first of his victims but not the last.

Now Jess is the star of a YouTube reality series and she’s using it to catch the killer once and for all.

The whole world is watching her every move.

And so is the Magpie Man.

My Review:

14 ways to Die was such a thrill ride mystery. The storyline was something a little different. Where the main character puts herself into harm ways, to catch a killer. This was has an unique cover that I also like. Either the main character is dumb for going up against a killer alone or smart. Which you can decide for self.

Jess and her dad still dealing with the loss of her mother. When there a chance to appear on a YouTube TV, Jess puts herself out there. All she ever wants is justice for her mom death. Also to finally put the killer away. Her being on tv could do more harm than good. When the Magpie killer strikes again.

14 ways to die was a very fast pace book. Also a fun guessing game of who the killer is. So many suspects and full of surprises at the very end. This was a good mystery/thriller I did enjoyed. Could see myself reading it again and again.

Ready to see Jess catch a killer?

Lost In the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas

Summary:

When children go missing in the small coastal town of Astoria, people look to Wendy for answers.

It’s been five years since Wendy and her two brothers went missing in the woods, but when the town’s children start to disappear, the questions surrounding her brothers’ mysterious circumstances are brought back into light. Attempting to flee her past, Wendy almost runs over an unconscious boy lying in the middle of the road, and gets pulled into the mystery haunting the town.

Peter, a boy she thought lived only in her stories, claims that if they don’t do something, the missing children will meet the same fate as her brothers. In order to find them and rescue the missing kids, Wendy must confront what’s waiting for her in the woods.

My Review:

Lost In the Never Woods is a twisted retelling of Peter Pan. I did like the storyline of the book and the twists at the end. For me this book was kinda of slow pace. Also I like the creepy cover of the book. Since the cover fits the theme of it. The characters you get to fall in love with and feel for them

I liked Wendy in the book. She is brave going through a tragic event when she was younger. Wendy wants answers about her brothers and what happen in those woods. When kids disappear again and a mysterious boy comes looking for her. It time for Wendy to go back in the woods and remember the truth.

This book was a like to me not love. The dark story, and the twists at the end is what I enjoy most. The rest was just slow moving pace for my taste. I still would like to read Aiden Thomas other book, Cemetery Boys still. If you looking for a dark take on Peter Pan, some of you may enjoy this read.
